In this episode I install new windshields into the 49 GMC (49 Chevy is the same) with alittle help from one of my younger bro's Chuck. Since it's my 1st time at such a task I show how to install the new windshields into the new seal/gasket, feed some rope into the pinch weld channel to aide in install and the actual install of the assembly into the 49 GMC and I include some trials and errors encountered along the way.

Binge watching the 49 and Chevy Truck Videos. I am so jealous. I wanted to build a truck for my Dad several years ago but my job was always in the way. Then Dad passed away. We never did get him a truck. We were farmers and he always had a truck, until he retired from Farming. Granddad had an old Ford I wanted to get but i was drafted in 71 and my Uncle had it hauled away when Granddad died. With Granddad, my Uncle and my Dad all gone now i feel the loss. Your video took me back and to the top of the hill one more time. Thank You so much for sharing these great experience. I worked on a 47 Chevy Coupe when i was 15, but that car was lost in time as well. Thank You so much, Now i am getting the bug again but no one to work with me. I see you can do it all alone! Take care and enjoy your blessings, D

Soak the rope in soapy water so it slips out and lubes the seal a the same time. Use sealer to prevent rusting the frame.

After installing the windshield on my '53 the new center SS trim wouldn't fit close enough to the rubber to get the screws to start. The trim looked like a hawk bill on both ends, so I ground down the ends to fit the curve of the rubber and it worked great and you can't tell it was modified. Installing the windshield , on the other hand, was a real pain, took about 2 hours and my friend that helped me was a paint and body man! Also, it's great to see some recent videos about these old trucks instead of 5 or 6 year old stuff. I "finished" my '53 Chevy last year after about 3 years of work and wish I had another one like you do to work on, but my one bay garage ain't big enough. I also watched the video about raising the rear end and I think the stance is perfect.

Very stressful and awkward to accomplish. You're right, you do need an extra pair of hands. I've used gel hand soap as a lubricant for the rubber and the cord to help. Good job, it's really looking nice.

Once I had an issue the seal on my 50 chevy pickup, and the glass guy that was installing for me had me order the one you used. The truck shop in Orange, CA is where I got mine. Great video, not an easy job to do. He had a heck of a time screwing the stainless center piece from the inside, I had to push it hard from the outside so it would catch. I remember the glass I had bought turned out to be a too big, he had to take it home and cut it down. Luckily you didn't have that problem.

I had heard about glass problems but both windshields fit perfectly or about as close as they could be. Thanks for watching Sergio

Oh ya, that looks a lot better. A simple solution to no leaks is not to drive it in the rain, LOL.... My '60 hasn't seen a drop of rain for over 20 years. I only drive it around in summer or nice dry days in the other seasons. It's not a show queen though and I actually haul stuff once in awhile. I just want to preserve it from rust. It had a restoration about 20 years ago and still looks good, especially from 20 feet away LOL......

Thanks for another good real world video. Nice job , it sure looks nice. I’ll have to try that some day soon. I just finished putting in new cab mounts and thanks to you I will try getting my doors working better after seeing you do yours. Keep up the good work. If I knew how to video ,I would like to try this KZbin out and help inspire others like your doing. By the way I believe renewing the cab mounts has helped with my door Alignment some.

You are correct Steel Products is by far the best quality rubber and seals available. My 52 was much easier using that brand for sure.
