Perry Como was just a jewel. Everyone loved the man. He was nearly perfect. Can’t even imagine being in that audience watching this live at NBC Rockefeller Center - NYC in late 1949. Nearly 10 years before the video tape recorder became known. Had to be an absolute sight to see and was as high tech as any new iPhone or anything comparable to that today.

Raymond Massey starred in the stage and screen version of ABE LINCOLN IN ILLINOIS, becoming identified with the character (the next generation would know him as Dr. Gillespie,opposite Richard Chamberlain's Dr. Kildare).

I like anything of this era that takes a look at college, as it was still a rareified experience, pretty much limited to the wealthiest--or the poorest, on scholarship. It had yet to become part of the middle majority mindset.

Anyone remember Martin Block's "Make Believe Ballroom" on WNEW in NYC>

Martin Block was a little before my time, but I do remember William B. Williams, his successor, and the "Make Believe Ballroom". He had one of the great speaking voices and turned me into a fun of the music of that generation.

I remember Make Believe Ballroom with Al Jarvis on KFWB Los Angeles. Jarvis is thought to be the first disc jockey and supposedly created The Make Believe Ballroom. When Jarvis left for KLAC, Martin Block was hired by KFWB and perhaps that’s why Block used that title upon his return to NYC.
