My first car was a 50 TD. Loved it! However, I notice differences in your dash compared to mine. I remember the horn button being center bottom and I didn't have a glove box.

exactly what i was thinking. if so, not a standard TD transmission. OR the next generation TF, OR the next generation after that, MGA, transmission either. which would explain the ease with which downshifting was accomplished. not that one cannot down shift from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd in a TD, but it's not possible to do it as quickly as was demonstrated in the video. and as i can attest to, running an MGA (4.3:1) diff is problematical even with the standard 55hp on a rebuilt engine. there'll be more downshifting to 3rd or even 2nd taking place, even on interstate type climbs. 4.55:1 is about as high as you'd want to go. fortunately, it was a standard option on these cars and can be found and swapped in. BTW, a 4.55:1 will give one about 55mph at 3700 rpm using standard sized tires. taller sidewall tires will accomplish the same thing as a higher ratio diff...to some extent. there are limits WRT availability though.
