I use almost the same westinghouse machine as seen in this advertisement. I also have the matching dryer. Mine is a 1958 machine. I've never tried dumping sand in it lol. It looks like something from the jetsons and the back lights up. It has like a million water temperature settings. The dryer has the auto dry feature which seems quite advanced for 1958.

My mom had one of these machines…good memories. Now front end loaders are back in style again…😂..except for women’s hats. Have a great day!

Amazing you had to have a lot of patients to watch tv commercials like that back in the day. I guess Westinghouse was a great brand back in the day I was born in 68.

The only reason the Westinghouse did better with sand removal is the perforated tub which the three top loaders didn't have. They were solid tub washers. Of course Westinghouse didnt test against Whirlpool/Kenmore. Those two had perforated wash baskets since the beginning of the automatic washer boom after WW2.

You mean 2 cups of ground rocks lady . Not soil from your garden. If there was no sand in the Westinghouse when it was finished. I bet i know where is ended up. All in the U trap of the drain line standpipe . No money saved , now you've got to call a plumber. And that sand will eventually tear up that Westinghouse drain pump too.

The 80's had White Westinghouse for front loaders. In the 90's, White Consolidated Industries did not make a front loader for the 1995 model year, as the front loader was being redesigned, to include a front loading detergent, bleach, and softener dispenser tray, and the dryer to stack on top for the 1996 model year. For the 1996 model year, instead of going by White Westinghouse, it went under Frigidaire. I bought my first front loader in 1999, and did a good job. It had the wash, spray rinse during the draining of the wash water, then 3 short rinses, with a spin in between. The final rinse was when the softener dispensed. It did a load of clothes in 40 to 50 minutes. The drawback was the spin speed, of just 550rpm. It went to 900rpm during the last 3 minutes of the final spin.
