1950's Wilton "Shop King" Vise Restoration

In this vise restoration video, I am restoring a 1950's style Wilton Shop King Vise. I picked this up in Arizona. The vise was in rough shape and missing the jaws. I made a pair of soft aluminum jaws and tried to match the paint as closely as I could to the original color. I will be using this vise in my shop. Love the size, and I was needing a vise with soft jaws. If you have any questions, leave a comment below. Enjoy!

So look man... I have to say, that in the last month since I've found restoration videos, It's been crystal clear that *My Mechanics* is the absolute Gold Standard for camera work, attention to detail, holding each part to the camera, taking care when disassembling and reassembling, filing to get rid of casting marks, and the way the entire process is edited (in video) and put together... But then here you are, with a mind boggling 6.25K subscribers? I say that, because there has to be upwards of 100 channels on KZbin doing restorations. And _NO ONE, has even come close to taking as much care, and showing precise attention to detail, filing, sanding, and so on,_ (meaning in comparison to My Mechanics) - *Aside from YOU!* You're the ONLY one that's I've come across that is that good, and that I sat and watched the entire video from the moment I clicked on it, and thought 'yeah, I finally found another channel doing it right'. Don't get me wrong, there are some other channels that do 'good' work, but no one files and sands the castings on Vices, and misc restorations, many don't sandblast, most don't use primer for some odd reason, and no one takes that extra second or two with every single part, showing it to the camera, rotating it, pointing out flaws or what's going to be fixed, and putting that info on screen, really taking time with how the video is put together along with what you actually accomplish with your hands on the restorations; so that it can be properly appreciated. I can honestly say, after I got through this video, and went to subscribe, I was shocked you didn't have 900k to 1.1m subscribers; your work is THAT good. You've gained a subscriber for life, and I turned on "ALL" notifications. Superbly well done! And I haven't checked how many videos you have posted yet on your channel, but you can count on me binging on your content until I watch them all lol! :) Cheers, -H.B.

What a thing of beauty you have created from a dirty old piece of workshop equipment. The downside is that you need to put it in a display cabinet now, because if you used it for the purpose it was intended, it would soon be an old scruffy vice again. ;-)

I really like the little Shop King vises. Imagine, a shop tool with actually artistic style! While the quality of today's tools (most of them, anyway) can't be assailed, there's simply no visual presence to them. I love that you took the time to freshen this one up.

I inadvertently found your channel and stopped to watch because I had the same experience as you regarding this vise. Awhile back, approximately two weeks ago, I saw one like this with all the original parts. I really liked the retro design and general beauty of the tool. I purchased it with the intent of restoring it as you did. I just received it last week. Your work on this piece was exceptional and you should be proud of the end result. A functional work of art that can be used for another 60-70 years and beyond. As for all the negative comments, just disregard them. First off it’s your tool to do with as you wish. Second I agree that you have brought this vise to what the original designer envisioned on the drawing board. Finally, throughout history tool owners have modified their tools to suit their needs and taste. For someone to criticize you as they did has disrespected you and your extraordinary effort to provide them with entertainment and inspiration. If they didn’t care for it just move on. Congrats on the great work and thanks for the inspiration. You earned another subscriber. Take care and keep the projects coming.
