Skeets McDonald was a West Coast-based Country music singer, who also was a cast member of the 1950s music program, “Town Hall Party”, which was broadcast nationally on NBC Radio, and televised locally on KTTV Los Angeles, California. McDonald would play a balanced amount of Country and Rockabilly/R & B songs of that time period. For a Country music program, “Town Hall Party” was very progressive in its choice of Rock songs and Rock music artists, such as Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent And The Blue Caps, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
@greystep6520
@greystep6520 Жыл бұрын
Good show where the performers really act and sing, unlike the national Dick Clark Show. Although the level of "staging" at the Town Hall Party was just as good. For example, Bob Luman's performance of "Shake, Rattle And Roll" - dance improvisation and crazy man at the piano, that's all it takes.

Hmm... why? I like Elvis' 1954-1955 singles when he was on Sun Records. He played exactly like the early 50s memphis R&B bands, but adding touches of hillbilly boogie to it.
@wesleycook7687
@wesleycook7687 Жыл бұрын
@@greystep6520 I didn't hate Elvis. I'm 77 so I was about 10 when he started out. I liked Mystery Train, the old Bill Craddup cover. And Don't Be Cruel later. But he was nothing special to me. I used to listen to the Moondog show with Alan Freed because I liked the rythm and blues . I liked Doo Wop. I liked Buddy Holly. But that's me. Ral Donner sounded a lot like Elvis and I liked him .Girl Of My Best. Friend was better by Ral. I liked Terry Stafford 's Suspicion better than Elvis' version..I got burned out on Elvis when I found out he had his Memphis Mafia pick up underage girls for him.
@greystep6520
@greystep6520 Жыл бұрын
@@wesleycook7687 agree, Terry Stafford nailed it. Elvis has been very promoted since 1956, but I think if that kind of support had been given to Gene Vincent or Johnny Burnette or even Link Wray, they would have been bigger than Elvis. My guess is probably false, because Eddie Cochran had a lot of screen time and hits, but got more popularity in England than in the US. Maybe an early death in 1960 influenced it, who knows. And the Memphis Mafia, yes... many artists have dark sides, like Jerry Lee Lewis and his marriage to his 13-year-old cousin! Ain't that a shame? Terrible! But I still love Jerry Lee's music.

@@greystep6520 "Gene Vincent or Johnny Burnette or even Link Wray, they would have been bigger than Elvis" Seriously? They are all great but non of them were on a level with Elvis. If anything Elvis was held back by that dead weight Parker sucking the life out of him. Elvis never performed outside of the US, can you imagine the frenzy if he'd done a world tour instead of those cringe movies Parker locked him into, the first four were ok'ish but everything after was just candyfloss and a waste of his talent
