I remember a Sappy Days episode where the guys buy a great car for $175 dollars, can't fix it, something I would have done at age ten, with help from my older mechanic friends, and the shop I worked in after school, they end up letting it slide into a river, then Fonzi sells it for $ 50 to the same folks that sold it to them, real Lou Sirs. Typical Hollywood, as far as cars.

Oh your car was wired by Lighthouse for the Blind to! My Camaro has a relatively expensive aftermarket electric fan in it from “Be Cool” and when I bought it, it was wired with a ground switch duct taped to the radiator overflow tank. I’ll be honest and say that I hate wiring, but some of the shit people do is just incredible. If you have to rig something to get out of a jam so you can get home that’s understandable, but these are not permanent fixes. I never understood how people could spend a ton of money on engines / swaps, transmissions, wheels, paint etc... yet ignore or purposely wire something to where it looks like Stevie Wonder did the job
@historybuff92764 жыл бұрын
I had a 82 Camaro that came with a 2.5 automatic. With the factory rear end it was low gear with a strong 350 in front,but didnt last long. Once my alt wire fraid and came out of the plug it only had like 2 strands still hooked to the alt.When you went over 1500 rpm it sounded like a turbo, so my buddy and me done the right thing left it alone til it finally burnt up.

Yes Sir I can relate. I bought a rusty '69 Chevelle while stationed in Va. I drove that home to Ca. The only hiccup was the horn relay lost ground in Knoxville, Tn. A $2 recharge and she finished using a quart of oil every 200 miles. She had a 400 csb with 3.31 one leg diff. In 2012 I bought a '61 Apache pickup in San Diego, I didn't brave the chance to drive it home. The tires were dated 16.5 bias ply. She had exhaust blown at the y-pipe and #1 cylinder had cracked rings. The headlight was smashed on driverside which meant I would have no lights at all. It would have been a 3 hour drive home so I trailored it.

When I was a teenager our neighbor down the street a mechanic decided he was going to take his brother's 50 Buick straight 8 and build a dune buggy I remember with all the neighborhood kids we rolled the body off to the side leaving the chassis engine and drivetrain. We ended up shortening it probably two and a half feet, put seats on it, cobbled a 3 inch water pipe roll bar not very safe of course. We built their own dual wheels to bolt onto the stock hub. we even went as far as to fill the rear tires with calcium carbonate to make extra weight. We had a lot of fun with this thing. This is 1968. In 1969 we discovered VW Beetles and started our dune buggies
