Seeing all these cool uses for these old school tractors is making me realize I need one.

That is a sweet system. Its really quiet and awesome to just hear the wood snap. Forward and backwards. Geterdone.

What a beautifully restored 8N! And a damn cool splitter to boot!

Man... The only way to make that better, is to have some teens doing that while you're up in the shade with a cold drink. Very nice tractor, and nice home brewed splitter....

This is a nice fairly safe way to split firewood. When I was a kid in the late 70s my dad had a screw drive splitter that ran directly off the PTO shaft. It was really fast but rather dangerous......he got rid of it for a system similiar to yours.

Need a rocker (auto return to neutral) foot pedal… Step on the left side the ram goes back… Release it returns in neutral… Step on the right side the ram goes forward… release it returns in neutral

Nice and quiet, you could run that splitter in a church.

Bad ass!!!

You need to drive your tractor up onto a trailer with the splitter hanging off the back, so that it will be taller and you won't have to bend over all day like that.

Ok, I'll try to get the dimensions next time I go up there... Keep in mind that I did not build this splitter myself. It was built by the previous owner...

7-2-15 Happy 4th of July... Is the splitter run by electricity? Its so quiet, especially if it is hydraulic. Having it split on the backward motion is sweet.

Nice splitter, how many GPM was the pump you were running do you know? I'm putting together a splitter for my 841.

hello, i would love it if you could send me the dementions of that splitter i have an 8n i purchased when i was deployed and i would like to construct a splitter for my use. thank you for the video!!!

What kind of pump do yoy have connected to the shaft?
@overkilljeep3 жыл бұрын
Not certain of the model... This splitter was built by a local farmer who passed away a few years back. I believe it's a high flow hydraulic pump. Il'l check if there is more info on the casing when I go back to the cottage... cheers.

I was under the impression the PTO only worked on an 8n in gear?
@overkilljeep5 жыл бұрын
No. The PTO will turn when engaged with the transmission in neutral. But if you press the clutch in, everything will stop.
@calholli Жыл бұрын
My 2N is the same way. You are correct that it will only work with the clutch engaged. (which is a bummer in many situations).

cool setup, log splitter sits too low tho, it must wreck your back after a while with all that bending over
@overkilljeep6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I know … but it’s still a heck of a lot easier than using an axe. Plus, I’m very tall so I make the whole thing seem lower lol. ;-)
@johndowe70036 жыл бұрын
overkilljeep yeah im 6'1 and i usually make everything taller to acomidate date my size. I also run a splitter and its just about above waist level and its grear
@gabev23247 жыл бұрын
What kind of splitter is that
@calholli Жыл бұрын
a log splitter
@helenecorrigan876112 жыл бұрын
That's some mighty fine log splitting there boy... That splitter works both ways ! Maybe you could come to my place there and I'll give you some money to split my damn wood ? OK, well I'll talk to you later there you son-of-a-bitch...
@johnjaco55443 жыл бұрын
At that rate you have accord in about a year
@overkilljeep3 жыл бұрын
Lol! I'm going a little slower for the video. But It's actually a lot faster than most of the other splitters I've seen. And strong to! With a helper feeding me the logs, I split about a face-cord per hour.
@calholli Жыл бұрын
@@overkilljeep If you weld a T/ cross on your splitter, it can split into 4 pieces in one push, instead of just 2. Or if it's strong enough, you could add even more cutters.
