Great video...first Elgin 16hp I have ever seen run. If the HS jet doesn't have any effect on the low speed running quality you can always change the angle of the taper on the low speed needle to take some of the sensitivity out of it. Agree also that the starter design is really cool.

I checked the LS needle taper when I went through the carb and it wasn't worn and looked pretty sharp. Good thought on increasing the taper if it keeps being so twitchy! The starter is cool but boy does it add a lot of drag to the pulls! I cleaned and lubed the heck out of it to minimize friction, but I could see it easily getting gummed up and being a workout.

Pappy, I've got a '51 Elgin 16hp. I got it to run in the tank but I've got to do a little more on the ignition. Where might I find a condenser or two for this?

That thing is a real beast! Love that starter set up...Sorry I missed you today, was in town but figured you were working...

Yep, work has a way of getting in the way of fun stuff.... But it puts bread on the table and pays the mortgage!

I need a few connecting rod needle bearings to get mine running.

Turned out nice! It will be interesting to see how getting the high speed dialed in on the boat affects the low speed tuning. Especially since it seems to run a bit richer with the hood on. Are you going to post another video with it on the boat once it's dialed in?

I hope to run it on the boat very soon and will do a full OddJob Motors Test Report on it at that time. (Provided that it runs okay!) I think the exhaust getting sucked under the hood while in the tank was an issue - that should be less of a problem out on the water. We'll see!

+Art Sesselberg I'll be looking forward to the report. Yes, I'm sure the exhaust getting drawn in under the hood had something to do with the change in running once the hood was put on. I usually need a fan blowing on anything over 6hp unless there is plenty of wind. That should be a non issue on the boat. That's a cool motor. It looks pretty heavy.

I actually have one of these. I got it from 'BJ' the polisher, Lol 😆. I couldn't believe it when I got it running as it sat outside in the elemments for decades along with hundreds of his other Outboards on his property in AuGres. This is nice to see here!

@oldjohnnyrude8404 is there a video on his boat somewhere? I'd love to see it

i have one of these that is on the "project" list. i was wondering what about the water pump was so bad so i can brace for it? did you have to get an impeller made or did you modify an existing easily available impeller to fit this motor?
@oddjobmotors14618 жыл бұрын
Everything you need to know about the misery of the Elgin 16hp waterpump is on my OddJobMotors.com website. Here's the direct link: www.oddjobmotors.com/elgin-16.htm All I can say is that I hope yours comes apart easier than mine did....
