Aw Gee! No burnout! Hell, Jay he wouldn't mind! My cousin (Paul Pfohl) had a 1952 Allard with a Cadillac motor and a special LeMans body. He used to take us kids in the neighborhood for rides in it. We'd go around the block at 120mph+ and as soon as he got it back home he'd park it in his garage right away before the cops showed up. Great fun!

I love that it is so bare bones, has a real stick shift, and is just well built instead of being all tech'd and safety'd out. Also, that steering wheel is beautiful.

Looks great and before Jay commented I thought the back 1/3 from the seat and back ..wheelarches and trunk really look like an AC Cobra. That engine note is great as well.

My uncle owned an Allard J2X. he had the Cadillac engine in it. He tells of having to put the vehicle in neutral as he coasted by the local police, as it was too loud for the man. I also remember looking at the speedo showing 120+ MPH, as a teenager. Fast and fun!
@TheRealUyi10 жыл бұрын
i met mr allard at a car auction once. he was there with the owner of a j2x just hanging out. hes such a cool guy and down to earth. the car was amazing too, the build qualitys so nice on them and theres lots of little trick things done all around. the j2x i saw had a ctsv motor in it though, was really nice

You mention the idea of a Ford Cobra. Shelby did race an Allard -- 1952 J2. It's still around.

Carroll Shelby did get the idea for his cobra from Allard, by taking a V8 engine and placing it into a relatively small sports like car. Eventually, Carroll Shelby was producing a new car called the Shelby cobra and it was inspired by the cars built by Sydney Allard.

I worked in a Mazda dealership for about a year, and driving them is the closest thing I know to driving a street-legal go-kart with a windscreen. Not Lightning fast, but a hell of a lot of fun. There is a crazy Australian upgrade known as the Bullet Roadster. Take an MX5/Miata, change its body panels for fibreglass, and add a Lexus 4 litre V8, with an optional supercharger. Quick is an understatement

i proudly own a 67 mustang coupe and i could care less if it is, my biggest advantage is that where i live im exempt from emissions testing. every week someone asks to buy it so far only men have been the ones offering but i never intend to sell it. i aim restore and modify it. i tend to be a chevy guy but i prefer the looks of a 67 mustang over most cars

Doc McHenry in Silverlake had a Cad Allard, supercharged. One time he pulled on the inside of my Grandpa's 1959 T-Bird with the 430 Lincoln motor at a stop light, and Gramps got promptly got blown into the weeds by the mighty Allard J2X. Copies that fail to utilize the swing axle front suspension, or are made of fiberglass, and have a Mustang II front steering and control arms leave me cold. Like this one does. History strained through a dollar meter.

WOW!!! It is an absolutely beautiful car. I have always found it most interesting that the best looking cars have such a balance of looks between the shape of a muscle and a woman’s physique. The shot around the six minute mark is reminiscent of the AC Cobra. This is one of those rare times where someone gets it right and creates a balance between artwork and engineering. Thank you for the video Mr. Leno. P.S. - What do you plan to do when you retire? Besides relax… lol.

I remember the bad old days of the 80s Kit Car! :-) Thing is, some people think they're STILL like that. What I was trying to say was that the lines are now blurring between a Kit Car & a Specialist Car & the only difference is, if it's available factory assembled OR for home-build then it's a Kit Car but if it's ONLY available factory-built then it's a Specialist Car. I just felt Jay (maybe unintentionally) was using the words Kit Car as an insult, which is a bit unfair on today's industry.

If Allard hadn't done it first, I would have said this is what happens if you crossbred an Austin-Healey roadster with an AC Cobra. The rear end and the cockpit look so much like them, as well as the balls-out growl from their huge side pipes. The Austin-Healey looking front end makes it distinctive enough nore to be mistaken for anything else. While the nose may resemble a Healey, it's not a "clone" of anything
