I'm really enjoying these races and this channel overall. Anyone who has driven GPL knows how hard it is to string a lap together - let alone a race. This Spa circuit is so unforgiving! Those left handers before the end of the lap with a grassy drop off into some trees - instant death. Anyway a superbly driven race and well deserved win. Please keep the content coming, I love it!

As always, an enjoyable watch. You race like a real human who practices a bit when he can find the time, generally knows what he is doing, and does it well. I like that. Some of the alien sim drivers look like they have either too much time or some sort of cheater mod, and it makes their videos a lot less immersive. Also, your commentary is on point - not too loud or too soft, and you come across as someone I'd like to have in a sports car club, rather than some loudmouth ego-run-wild that feels he was unfortunately separated from a real F1 seat by a cruel twist of fate. Maybe not super-human, but humanly super!

Amazing race man. so proud. I remember my first GPL win and the relief at the end is something hard to forget. These emotions is what in my opinion sets GPL ahead of any racing game ever. By the way, can you show the newspaper article at the end? I don't know if its in the 55 version but if it is can you add it in.

A great race, and very well driven. Very quick, too, 4.05 is definitely quick around there. A fantastic first win on one of the best circuits in GPL, and a Ferrari one-two! Il Commendatore will be pleased. I must say, I am loving this 55 season, keep up the good work!, and good luck at Zandvoort!

Congratulations! But i doubt if it's his first win when he is in his thirties or maybe even fourties (when his son drives in F1 just ten years later) and had for sure lot of F1 races behind :). But again congrats, great victory after smooth race. Few facts from real race - Last race in F1 for Giuseppe Farina (he quit because of persistent pain from 1954 crash), after Alberto Ascari fatal accident only Eugenio Castellotti drives in Belgian GP for Lancia and he even won pole position!

Given American F1 drivers in this era typically came from sports car racing, it's probably not crazy that this is indeed Axelson Sr's first Grand Prix win, following a long and distinguished sports car career in the States ;)

What a brilliant race, I was much more excited (and nervous for you) than numerous times watching real racing! These old race cars and circuits in GPL are merciless, it really gets my blood pumping going full speed in this game. The Ferrari roar is pretty brutal, loving it. How fast are these cars going, I guess 180+ mph on this track? BTW, what settings are you using on GEM+ in terms of the AI?

Most of the 1967 F1 cars were ~1,200 lb. Most of these are ~1,400, which is higher, but not astronomical. The odd one out seems to be the Mercedes, which from what I can tell, was ~1,800 lb. Of course, the W196 had 290 hp instead of the 240-250 hp of most of the others. The Lancia had 260 hp, and was toward the lighter end of the 1955 field, so that helped it. Well, you yourself called that bit with Gonzalez "timid", and then complimented Fangio on being "aggressive". Unless it's a place you can see that you're quicker than the AI, lap-after-lap, you have to be prepared to strike when an opportunity presents itself, even when the timing or the spot on the circuit isn't "ideal". Heck, I think we nowadays get too hung up on what are "conventional" overtaking points, opportunities, and methods, things that were a lot more fluid back in those days. As a final note on driving, Jacky Ickx was well-known for going hellbent-for-leather off the top, especially when he had a turbo boost knob in the cockpit, and then settling in to a comfortable, for him and what he could do with the car, pace, once he'd already gotten into a good position. And as I recall, he was quite good at Le Mans and elsewhere, so the strategy sure seemed to work in the long races.

Ramp angles are killing you, particularly at SPA. 60/30 is default and it's no good, it's a lot more fun to go more aggressive, try 30/85. 60/30 on this track just means more and more understeer on the fast corners and losing time on the uphill corners.

A couple of observations, if I may? First of all, well done. It is clear that driving these vintage cars wasn't easy and just because they are now electronic avatars of the past, they are clearly no easier. My first observation is that with just anonymous 'AI' drivers, it is easy to be aggressive and not the least intimidated by them. By having actual, real life drivers with known histories, it must be very difficult NOT to be intimidated by just their names? One of them, of course, is still alive - our own Sterling Moss! Second, I am not a sim driver, but I am a very experienced driver of cars with similar transmissions and braking systems and I used to drive like an idiot in my youth. I notice you do not use the classic racing 'Heel and Toe' technique of braking smoothly, while 'double de-clutching' down through the gears. When done properly, it allows you to change into a lower gear at a higher speed, while still maintaining pressure on the brakes. I don't want to teach my Grandmother to suck eggs, but merely by the sound and the fact all those drivers in front of you appeared to flash past and get away from you, under braking and slowing for bends, leads me to think you could gain valuable time by use of the technique? You've mentioned Jimmy Broadbent and, unless he's not doing it properly, it sounds like he uses double de-clutching and I can see his feet doing the 'Heel and Toe' movement. Check him out and get the right technique. It's all to do with non synchromesh gearboxes and I had to learn to drive on gearboxes like that. When you have it right - it's a matter of timing - you do it by ear, you synchronise the next gear with the lay shaft to allow a fast, crunch free change. You actually do it changing up, as well as down, although you don't 'blip' the throttle on an up change, only on the way down. If you talk to Jimmy Broadbent, he will show you how it is done. When I used to drive our Scout Troop's minibus, especially when towing a trailer, I was the only regular driver who could guarantee to get first gear from second, going up a very steep hill or into an uphill bend. There was no 'synchro' on first gear and no-one else was old enough to have learned the technique!
