Is this sassafras or ash? As far as refinishing goes, it’s already been refinished once. How much value does it still have?

I have always heard it's best not to touch anything if it's working don't mess with it I guess you could refinish the body now that it's stripped down but it's always best to leave it original as possible to retain the value.
