Love seeing these old school drive inns still cranking out delicious treats. We have one in Anne Arundel County, MD, Ann's Dairy Creme, that has been around since 1951!!! They had a large mall built behind them that tried to buy them out and move them into the food court. They told them to kiss off......today the Mall is all but vacant and Ann's has a line around the building every weekend!!!

Family restaurants that survive this long is what I like. I am a regular at a small mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant in Spokane Wa. During pandemic the owner was about to go under. Us regulars didnt want this to happen or let it. Owners son made sure it didnt. He set his dad up for take out orders. His son posted the change on Facebook. Owner was worried about quality changing, it didnt. Happy to say our community kept him going during hard times. My job transferred me about a year ago. When I go back to Spokane to visit relatives, I stop by the restaurant. Seen to many small places go under during pandemic. Hated to see that.

I'm from Boston and there's alot of cool history in and around Boston. There's even an old drive in close to a trail head coming off the Appalachian trail. It's been so long since I've been home, it may be called Neposet Drive In. It's pretty much the same way it was when I use to go as a child. Look into it, something to do come spring.

Great video! Sounds and looks like a great place to eat. These places were in every small town and are about gone now. People growing up in today's world missed out on these types of restaurants where the food was made to order, fresh off the grill, and sometimes you could watch it being cooked from the counter. Kids and grownups only know Macdonald's and the like, and most have missed the experience of these home owned businesses where the quality of food and service far outweighs the franchise fast food joints. My grandchildren have never eaten at a restaurant like this since all these cafes and diners have sadly disappeared from our area. Brings back memories from my youth. Keep the videos coming!

Sure wish I lived over there instead of middle TN...I'd probably be at the Frostee Freeze everyday...LOL!!! That is so awesome that it is still there. I was saddened to hear that the drive in is gone now. We still have a working drive in here in Marshall County, TN. It opens in the spring and shows movies, then closes during the fall/winter months. The only difference now than when I was a kid is that you don't have those things you hang on your windows for the sound. You go to a radio station and listen to the movie from your car that way....I'm just glad that it is still standing and it's one of the few in the US that is....Great video....Thank you for sharing...:)

This was a great video. I love places like these. What a great place and I hope the daughters continue with the family business! My grandpa had a drive-in/dine-in restaurant called The Wheelburger in my hometown. It had big canopy on the front and left side so that cars could park in the front and a few on the side. The left side had wooden picnic tables so you could eat in the shade and get some fresh air. The entrance was on that side also. I remember going there as a little kid and dining in, my dad gave me a quarter for the jukebox, and first selection was “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights” by Freddy Fender. My grandpa wasn’t the original owner. A man referred to as ZuZu owned it, which my dad worked for when he was in high school. We moved to another state after my dad served his time during the Vietnam War, so there was no one to take over once my grandpa retired. It burned down years later before I graduated high school, and there went an opportunity for me to take over.

@@theappalachianchannel I had to re-read my comment to see what I had said, and realized I didn’t write the last sentence correctly. I meant that my opportunity to take over the restaurant was dashed due to it burning down. It was never rebuilt, plus, I was in high school, then my grandpa died the year I graduated. I think the land went to my great uncle, and I went to college studying under a different field. Now, a Dollar General sits in its spot. Side note: My grandpa was General Omar Bradley’s personal driver from 1939 to the end of World War II. He also had some driving duties for General Eisenhower.

Love The mom and pop businesses. Sad to see so many go! Our family‘s Italian restaurant started in 1952 and my dad sold it in 1976….Just a fond memory!

I ate there a lot as a child. I grew up in New Tazewell . There was also a drive in across the street until the 1980's.

Been eating here since 1994 when I retired from my job in Chicago. One of the only places you can still get a slaw dog as far as I know.

"Somebody needs to tell us"! True that!!!! If I ever go to Tennesse, I must stop there for one of those beautiful onion rings! I'm in California and in the 1970's we, too, had a Frostee Freeze, too.
