Күн бұрын

Hi all!
On the ad site, I saw this strange contraption and did not immediately understand what it was))
After reading the description, I realized that this is a 1956 filmoscope!!!
As a child, our family had a filmoscope, but it was kind of boring (it looked like a rectangular box), and this one looks like some kind of alien tank)))
This filmoscope, in addition to surface widespread rust, also had a damaged case. To be honest, I was even delighted with this, I have long wanted to try a life hack on how to bend laminated fiberboard.
Restoration process:
After complete disassembly, all parts were sandblasted.
Then I carefully degreased and applied a two-component primer. By the way, for the first time I used a pneumatic spray gun and for the first time used 2k paintwork material. It was a bit exciting
Frankly, 2k primer and primer in an aerosol can differ dramatically !!! I really liked how the details look under 2k primer after it dries! The coating is denser and more durable than the primer from an aerosol can.
For wet sanding, I used 1000 grit sandpaper.
After wet sanding, I once again degreased and applied hammer effect paint, also using a pneumatic spray gun. In the instructions for the paint, it was indicated that for the manifestation of the hammer effect, the part must be placed horizontally until the paint is completely dry, because of this, the painting process stretched for two days!
The case of the filmoscope was in poor condition and also needed repair! For the new case, I chose laminated fiberboard.
To bend the laminated fiberboard into a semicircle, I used several methods.
One way is to soak the fiberboard in a bath of hot water. This method did not work for me, the fiberboard swelled up very much and doubled its thickness, and when I tried to bend it into a semicircle, it broke in many places.
The working method was to heat the laminated fiberboard with an iron through a damp towel. It is very important that only the non-laminated side of the fiberboard needs to be heated.
Then, while the fiberboard is still hot, it is necessary to fix the fiberboard to the part with the help of clamps and leave it to dry for two to three days.
Also in this video you can see the following processes:
sandblasting;
coloring of metal;
chrome plating of the surface;
how to bend plywood / fiberboard;
rust removal.

For everyone who relies on modern technology, it can and will be quite surprising that this contraption still works. Even if this film projector produces no sound.

You did a wonderful job restoring it. It's fun to think about how proud someone must have been to own this fancy Filmoscope. And how happy they would be that you saved it.

На фильмоскопе была очень интересная матовая шагреневая краска, популярная в середине двадцатого века. Начинать реставрацию надо было найдя такую.
@LosAngelesUSA2
@LosAngelesUSA2 11 ай бұрын

You need an extractor fan/filtering fan for your spray booth, as I assume you put on a respirator/dust mask for the air brush painting ~ copying all the others that do it but missing out the actual removal of the aerosol from your workshop 😉 either type of fan will go behind the item being sprayed/making the rear panel of the booth
