Great video! No cutesy dogs or other pets, no annoying music, no fancy million-dollar garage, just a straight old-school mechanic! Dan did not go "yee haw" or dance around once this engine started ----- a very pleasing presentation. Please keep this old Ford COE in its original configuration ---- there are not too many of these old classic trucks left that have not been chopped or otherwise modified.

I just love those old cabovers --- 40's, '50's, any make. Would love to find a cabover toter. Growing up in Florida, I saw them all over the place, pulling mobile homes to their destinations. My dad's uncle had a '62 Ford cabover tower for that work. Thanks for saving that old girl and best of luck to you.👍

I drove many miles on those Y block motors, some were fairly fast as well. I kinda started about the same time that engine did as helping in the shop... I thought to myself, anything is better than these flat head engines we had to work on... sounds like it wants to live another day

New subscriber! This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. Great video on a great series of Ford Trucks. I remember seeing these as a kid and always thought they were good looking trucks. To hear one run, after being a step away from its grave was exciting. Hoping you will restore this to a fully functional unit.

The medium duty trucks of the '30's-'60's are fast disappearing. I have saved several over the years. COE's in their original form are getting very rare. It would be nice to see this old girl restored and not repowered. They make great car haulers... life is short, slow down and enjoy the view.

seems like that crossover exhaust up front would of cause heating issues...and it probably did. especially sitting in traffic that exhaust is running right under the rad hose...seems like it would get hot as hell under the hood.

I/we could use a little more volume. I am hard of hearing in the first place and this computer has 2 speakers about the size of a quarter. If there is enough volume for me to hear it and it is too loud for others, they can turn it down. I can only turn mine up as far as it will go. I enjoy watching these old car and truck fix-up videos and I was looking for a new one to follow so I will give you a try. Keep it up. Thanks

IIRC there were options for truck V8 engines in '56. None were the standard car versions. All were based on the heavier Lincoln motor. 279, 302, 332, and the 368. So likely have to measure that one to figure out which it is ...
@danmaxwe113 жыл бұрын
The red coe dump truck parked next to this one has a Lincoln 368. The lincoln engine had ram horn style exhaust manifolds without a crossover pipe. The smaller ford y block has the exhaust crossover pipe on the front. The c600 didnt come with the lincoln engine. Only the c800 had the lincoln engine standard. Also the lincoln looks the same on the outside but it is physically larger. The c600 has a ford y block in it. The valve covers on the Lincoln engine are about 3" longer than the ford y block.

Hey, also: I'm lookin' for a mid-'40's chassis for my 1-1/2 ton G503...I have all the running gear; just need a half-way decent chassis...with a cab, no doors okay, no grill okay, too. If you trip over one or whatever, I'm interested !

Can't tell in the video what the diameter of the cross over pipe is it's a clue as to what size the engine is . The trucks normally did not have the 272 unless it was pickup . After watching more of the video I would guess that engine is no less than a 292 but is more likely a 312 or the 317 cargo king .
@danmaxwe113 жыл бұрын
It could very well be a 292 or 312, I know it isnt a lincoln though. The red truck next to it has a lincoln and the engine is physically larger. ford y blocks had the crossover pipe and the lincoln engines had ram horn style exhaust manifolds. C600 came with ford y blocks. C800 had the Lincoln

Pretty cool old truck, a rolling time capsule from a more promising age. License plate isn't the original but is definitely an older issue. If you're in Washington state, which corner? I grew up near Bellingham and the Canadian border. As a teen in the early 1970's, I remember early-1950's Ford, Chevy and Dodge pickups were plentiful. My Dad had a '39 Plymouth pickup for many years.

Its a 1953 gmc 470 with air brakes. It has a 302 inline 6 that is frozen. It was owned by Signal oil company in Seattle. They used it to deliver barrels of oil to all the service stations and shops in the puget sound. There is an old school Pto powered liftgate on the back too. There will be video’s about it in the future.

Why is it that nearly everyone wants to butcher these neat old for trucks with a different engine?, Why not an FE or 385 series big block?
@danmaxwe113 жыл бұрын
I want to be able to drive this truck on the freeway. The current set up has 6.88 gears so it only goes about 45mph max. Putting taller gears wont help because the engine doesnt have the power. I like FE engines and I have one in my f100, but the fuel milage is terrible. With the cummins I can put taller gears in the rear go faster and get good fuel milage. I have other coe’s I plan to keep 100% stock.
