Mobil for years had an annual cross-country Economy Run in which new cars went across the country to determine which models got the best gas mileage. In the years before the EPA mileage ratings, the Mobil Economy Run was the definitive measure of how many miles per gallon a new American-built car got.

I have a cardboard poster/sign like those taped to the entries....mine say;s "international safty and economy run" and "Mt, Baker High School, Deming, Washington"
