Oldsmobile sabotaged themselves as a brand when they adopted the “This is not your father’s Oldsmobile” slogan when it was a question that nobody was thinking about. Oldsmobile was a popular brand and they gave themselves the stigma of being an old man’s car.

Never thought about that angle ! Always assumed it was because of the archaic name that had Old and Mobile in the name, thanks for watching and commenting !

In my opinion, Olds should've marketed themselves that had something for every age group and not alienating one group in favour of the other. Olds were handsome cars without being too pompous or obnoxious that set them apart.

I interpret it as a new generation of Olds. Your Fathers Oldsmobile is the past generations.

GM was behind it's not your father's olds slogan. GM picked Olds to compete with the luxury imports thus changing the direction of Olds, and ultimately destroying the division. 50 past, American buyers was Olds traditional market for decades. Plus " Olds " was in the name. GM should've picked Pontiac to go after luxury imports and left Olds alone. The div might still be here....might....interesting though, Cadillac today picked up where GM left off with Olds after the div was closed. Buick is today experiencing the market alienation Oldsmobile did. Buick is pushing youthful in the US and having issues. China is keeping buick afloat today.

@@tommywatterson5276 Buick (the premium American motor car) has no vehicles made in the U.S.A. Everything is an SUV and all are made in Korea, except the larges SUV, which comes from Canada.

I love love these car's. My parents had this car when I was a kid. Ours was Kelly green and mint green. It was beautiful. It was in many of our family pictures. In 1963 we made a big trip from Oklahoma to California in that car. We rented one of those funky window air coolers. Traveling through the desert was horrible, it was later in the afternoon when we went across. I stripped down to my little girl panties, Dad took his shirt off,Mom had a tank top on and pulled up her hair and mine too. I loved that big car I had the big back seat all to myself and my baby dolls and all their cloths. It's a trip I will always fondly remember. One time somebody vandalized it while it sat in our driveway. They had pulled all the knobs out and bent them down. They some how bent the gear shift and the blinker, the radio knobs were messed up too. We didn't know about it until we got into the car the next day to go to the store. I had gone out to get into the car and saw the damage first, I ran in to the house to get Mom, she was so upset she cried and so did I. It broke my heart when we traded it in, we got a 1964 Chevy Impala, it was a pretty car, but not as beautiful as our Oldsmobile.

@@johnchandler1687 Yes automatics were standard in those divisions by the 1960s. Chevy and Pontiacs were a little more sporty anyways so manuals still fit them. You had the 2 speed power glide which was the entry level automatic for ever.

What a gorgeous Oldsmobile. I'm in Florida not but had a lot of customers that lived in "that neighborhood" when I lived in Calif. A lot of the "boys" in PS love their classic cars. What a well-done video. Is that car pretty much original as I saw the odometer read 54K miles? I'm sure all the brightwork has been redone. That is one rare beauty. Tanks for sharing.
