Beautiful work and impressive mods. I changed out the O-470 J on my '55 C-180 for a 470 S. It was a lot of work. Wish I kept her but I've let a lot of good ones get away.

I have the CGR 30P and like it a lot in a 1957 PA18A with a LyCon over hauled 210hp 0360 Lycoming with a constant speed electric MT prop. Performance is Great when you need it and the rest of the time the engine is running at about 50 to 60% power averages less fuel per hr than it did with original 0320. I’m hoping to get some lesser form of gain like the cub with the 1955 c180 and the North Point 0470 named modification when North point bought the engine mod STC from Pponk . I have a 3 blade McCauly prop for it. Hoping for close to 300hp. LyCon says it is possible we will see!!

I noticed the V brace for the float kit, but also notice you don't have a sea plane engine mount. Did you change this out and if so why? Thanks.
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures 2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t change it out, I don’t believe these came with them, reason I say that, because in order to install one, you have to modify the cabin heat/air box on the co pilot side to allow that side bar from motor mount to pass through it. Mine was a factory floats kit.

Cool! Not a GA guy but was your engine monitor not calibrated….which is why it was saying OVR and flashing red? That caught my attention 🤔😀
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures Жыл бұрын
Yes, good eye, it wasn’t calibrated correctly, specifically I had a bad egt probe, causing a over temp alarm, it’s now fixed but boy it was annoying looking at that flashing light lol

What was the red warning light going off for on the CGR 30P in the flight test? That conversion is a Great job!!! My kind of panel! I am waiting on the engine now for the same conversion for my 1955 C180.
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures 2 жыл бұрын
It was for low fuel, I hadn’t done the fuel set up yet. It requires you lifting the tail to level flight and adding 3 gallons at a time to calibrate it. Thanks for the awesome comments, I’m really happy with the layout. I built the panel myself, and could be happier. Basic and lightweight. Good luck on your conversion, I just had to add those shark gills to the cowl to keep that monster cool

Would you know Where can I find those vents for the cowling? I’ve have asked around and everyone in my small circle that I know, that has them found them off of some dismantled aircraft at a salvage yard. So far I have not found a supplier or salvage source? I live in the High altitude Southwest and I am sure I will need something like that to help air flow escape.

@@davidandrews1659 I will ask, my mechanic ordered them for me, I believe they cost around $300 new for a set. Let me look to see if I can find the link, they work pretty good so far!

Where did you order the pod from? I have a 57 with a new PPONK and Voyager three blade…I like the cargo pod you have.
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures 2 жыл бұрын
So the pod is a interesting topic, mine is built by a gentleman who lives in wasilla, AK. It is the “firman 180” pod. I had to get a “Feild approval” for it. That cost $300 for the paperwork. And the pod was around 3k. The next comparable option is a 9k one from airglas that’s certified. In my opinion the firman pod is much cheaper and nicer. It is almost identical to the “Cessna pod” but firman pod is 4” shallower. If you need help getting one I can help you. I’ve heard the Feild approval is hard to get right now, but when I did mine I had my paperwork back in a week. I’ll tell you what, that with the wife and the boy, we can take everything and the kitchen sink with the belly pod. Plus it keeps everything heavy under the the front two seats. I love it, hard to imagine life without it anymore. Total game changer! If you get one you’ll like. Only weights 40lbs and rated for up too 400lbs I believe

Excellent video! I have used it for a reference a few times with my Northpoint XP conversion. How did you figure out it had 306hp? Did Custom Aircraft put it on a dyno before you installed it?
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures Жыл бұрын
Yes I opted to have all the bells a whistles, port and polished, flow matched intake, high compression pistons, and yes on the dyno at custom AC. Printed out the sheets for me. They have to run it for a hour I think? And glad you liked the video, you’ll be all smiles with you PPonk. I know I’m I love! What do the say buy once, cry once? It was very expensive and I’m on a budget but it was worth every penny!

I would think that this engine would have a hard time keeping cool under that cowling. I've heard the older 182's don't allow enough air in for any engine upgrade. Have you had any issues?
@justinsalaskanadventures
@justinsalaskanadventures 2 жыл бұрын
Well I have not had any issues yet, but I fly in Alaska where it doesn’t get too hot, I have heard similar things but seems like that’s geared towards the warmer climate guys. I do know they make a cowl louver kit ( fish gills) that some guys use down south but for me with the new baffling and cold temps, she keeps nice and cooooooollll 😎
