Recording the speakers through a microphone, then playing it via youtube and possible compression, and me playing the video with the headphones jack to my stereo. Still I get the sensation that these speakers sound absolutely beautiful. Good choice of the music,,, Round midnight. 🙂

This is as close as I've ever gotten to actually hearing these legendary speakers. Thanks for doing this.

In 1982, I sold the last remaining retail new Paragon to a buyer in Germany. It was our showroom floor model, we didn’t have the box, it took two master carpenters to build a shipping crate in a week. Al Russo from JBL, I think he was the export VP at the time was instrumental in completing the deal.

What was the selling price in 1982? I have seen it recently for 25 K USD. Wishe I could have heard one.

What a lucky buyer ….

@@craigellsworth3952 Declared export price was $9000. I personally prepared the proforma invoice. Paragon had the most natural sound, nothing was exaggerated, nothing muffled. No matter where you sat in the listening room, no matter which way you were looking at, you were always immersed in the same extraordinarily balanced sound quality.

@moosesamli4569 Someday I hope to hear one. An older guy I bought some tubes from sold 2 new Paragons to another gent. One for him and one for his neighbor. He also bought 2 Citation amps to drive them. The purchaser was Mel Torme, The Velvet Fog.

I purchased a Paragon in the mid 1990's from a guy in the west of England, it had an amazing walnut veneer but the lacquer on the top was opaque and lifting. I had a local cabinet maker who was a master craftsmen restore it as sensitively as possible. When he returned to me it look magnificent. It was in perfect order electrically, it had been never been messed around with and was just perfect. I can remember reassembling it for the first and listening to it for an extended period of time with various valve amplifiers. I could never really get it to sound as good as it looked, to be fair I had original autographs, gold, red and silver and a genuine pair of acoustilens that all sounded better in my room. That said an iconic speaker and one I'd love to own again as a piece of history.

What did you find to be the biggest fault? In this video it sounds a bit too bright.

Saludos!

Wow ... Heard one of these years ago and it was the worst thing I ever did in hifi ... It made MY system sound like a portable radio ... I wanted one so bad but the wife n money said No ... Awesome speaker and furniture
it's amazing how old speakers sound better than the shit we have today.

I have one of these! Trying to get it set up to be used again, but don’t know anything about setting it up Could you give me some detail on your setup and what you have the feet of the cabinet sitting on? Looks different then mine
@nicholasreeves50253 жыл бұрын
Which aspect of setup are you looking for help with? The console (speaker) itself pushes together from the two halves then is locked together at the front with “pins” after this the curved front baffle is inserted. In this video the user has additional blocks of wood on the ground to lift his paragon up. It’s only speculation but I suspect he has lifted it up to reduce any potential bass bloat. If you need crossover or drive unit help I’ll need some details.
