I’m 76 , my first car was a 1956 Studebaker Silverhawk. Red body, white roof. Flathead 6cyl stick shift 3 speed on column. Paid $90 for it. Body was in great condition. Had a tube type radio that took almost a minute to warm up before it came on. Heater was underneath passenger front seat. Loved that car. Wish I had it now.

One thing that will keep me hooked on this channel: strange and unique cars that look amazing. A 52 studebaker street rod? Seriously? Those things are rare and cool enough and yet someone has gone over the top to make it look like it never could strait from the factory..... Wow!

The taillights make me think this was actually a 1956 Golden Hawk. Certainly those aren't the taillights from a 1957. But since this car has been customized, they could be from something else entirely.
@glorialondon5054
@glorialondon5054 4 жыл бұрын
This car, has been drastically modified! But, I do believe, it started out as a '57 Golden Hawk. It has the, Golden Hawk only, wide stainless (Halo) moulding. Across the top, at the front, of the back window. The ridges in the back of the trunk lid, don't appear to be of the style used for the '56 Hawks. The original fins, are no longer there, but, they're not that difficult to remove? Although, what was added to replace them, does look like it took significantly more effort! It will also significantly complicate removal of, either of, the rear fenders. If it's ever needed? The taillight, lenses, are '55 Studebaker C/K body lenses. It's difficult to see, for sure, what the housings actually are? The same taillight housings, were also used on all '56 Hawks, except the Golden Hawks! Which used a separate version of this same housing. That was slightly modified before being chrome plated. In order to accommodate installation of the fiberglass fins, that were also only used on '56 Golden Hawks. Studebaker designed a new lense, for the Hawks, that fit the same housing used in '55, and used it only one year. Going to the '55 taillights on this car, did away with its original '57 back up lights. A '56 Golden Hawk would have had.back up lights installed, in the upper bumper valence, just inside of the taillight housings. I admire all of the effort, and expense, that was put into this car! I'm sure it'd be a Blast, if I could ever get a chance, to drive it?

Studebakers have character, and classic lines... Looking at them now, you realize they may have been too innovative for a conservative consumer who only wanted a basic automobile... Why this car didn't catch the eye of the 50s consumer says much about the acumen of the 50s car-buyer... That's too bad too... The Champion and Hawks were good-lookin' and fundamentally sound automobiles, all the while offering innovation that should have resonated with the car-buying public but didn't... Studebakers were ahead of their time... Thanks for posting this video!

I'm curious what they did about ventilation and the license plate. The rear plate normally goes where the exhaust is on this car and ventilation is through small pop out doors in the front fenders, those are missing and they did not add cowl vents. Looks like a nice job.

Hot rods? Studebaker held the land speed record for production cars about 20 years. Take a Commander and turn the timing up to 20 degrees and eat GIO's. The 55 Speedster ran Indy faster than the cars that year. You talk "HOT".

Nice workmanship, but not what I would have wanted to see done with the car. I would have wanted to see more thought go into it than just replace all the mechanicals with C5 Corvette parts. Nothing against a C5 Corvette, but it's just too cliché to see a hot rod with all Corvette parts underneath. _Think different!_ And I'm not a big fan of a center exhaust that makes a big lump in the bumper that shouldn't be there. The front bumper looks so clean that it's a shame they didn't follow up with a similar bumper at the rear. Forget about through-the-bumper exhausts. The original had the license plate mounted there. It's not street legal as shown, which is a definite disappointment and/or problem for a car that is supposed to be a street rod. I would have kept the '57 Golden Hawk fins as they were, just removed the 5 chrome hash marks. The little stubby fins he replaced them with makes the car look too much like a Ford and they don't integrate well with the taillights. The taillights are canted backwards and the fins are canted forwards. It makes the fins look like afterthoughts. I would rather see the car without any fins at all, like the 1956 Hawks. I don't know what he's hiding under that big lump in the trunk, but I feel sure I could have found some better solution than that. In front, I would have eliminated the awkward "catfish mouth" side vents on either side of the grille, and I would not have hinged the hood at the front. What a ridiculous waste of money that is! I do like the subtle chop at the A-pillar. The original has a permanent acceleration squat, deliberate I'm sure. This trades some of that for a slightly lower profile. In 1958 Studebaker sat the Hawks on 14 inch rims to achieve a similar lowering of height. Interior looks very nice. I would have wanted a stick shifter. I'm not a fan of push buttons. But I have to admit that it is a nicely executed theme.
