This is a slideshow of some residents and frequent visitors to Otis Hall, a residence operated by Loyola University of New Orleans back in 1959.
Some of the names hanging around Otis Hall and Twellmeyer Hall in 1959 included: Attaway, Arrigunaga, Bacon, Berg, Boackle, Boyle, Brooks, Butler, Creswell, Cush, Dailey, Elzen, Esquivel, Farmer, Fernandez, Fledderman, Gallagher, Flusche, Guarisco, Hebert, Horne, Jansen, Lentini, Lindorfer, Marik, Monlezun, Moody, Neuman, Nicaud, Nicholson, Paschal, Pitre, Pugh, Ramirez, Shallcross, Shepard, Smith, Stryker, Torres, Wheeler
The Hall activities included lots of lots of 2-story water bag attacks, more card games than you could count, and a great many impromptu get-togethers The halls also served as an informal meeting place for some of the Loyola fraternities, and as a home-away-from-home for many local New Orleans students. Tall tales abounded!
Sadly, this street corner and lots where there was once so much life and laughter now sit underneath the rear wall of a multi-story building. Things never stay the same
The audio soundtrack is an actual recording of an authentic New Orleans radio station from back in those times.
Welcome back to 1959!
