1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix

Cool unusual car from 1960. I walk around and talk about this car and take the car for a drive around the block.

My brother had one in the 70s. Used to watch the road go by through the rusted out floors. He used waste oil from the filling station because the motor was shot .good times. Thanks for the memory

We had one of these when I was 5 years old. I remember going to the used car dealership in Aurora, IL with my dad. I will never forget when he asked me "which car should we buy, son?" I don't remember every detail or that day or of the car but I do remember the amazing steering wheel and the push button transmission. It was a really cool car, even though it was dark brown. Thanks for posting.

Replacing the windshield shouldn't be too too tough... Mopars used that same windshield in their big hardtops from 1957 to 1962... I'm pretty sure. In fact, I think that the glass out of a post sedan is the same, but don't quote me on it. And I agree with you... Those Magnum wheels don't do a thing for that car. I guess that correct hub caps/wheel covers might be pricey for it, though. She's a beauty! I had one in the mid 80s... Same color combination as yours. Bought it from the original owner in Houston Texas, right off the street where it had been parked in front of his house forever. Jeez... If I knew then, what I know now!

About the brakes- If I remember correctly, there are either two or four screw heads on the backing plates. When the car is on the lift, you'd get underneath and spin each wheel and tighten those screw heads until the wheel would stop spinning... Once it stops, back that particular screw off by a hair... Those screws adjust the shoes out to meet the inside of the drum. I had a few 59-61 Mopars years ago and remember having to periodically adjust those. When in proper adjustment, those brakes should be able to put you through the windshield... Cheers!

I believe Dodge called that color "fawn" it was a pinkish biege I had a four door hardtop just like this one in high school.

Not as exciting as the Matador/Polara, but more down to earth, and somewhat easier to find. None of these Dodges are very easy to find, though. And parts are pretty darn scarce.

I thought the Polara was the top-of-the-line? ...then Matador. Phoenix, Pioneer, Seneca.

I would love to have that car. My fathers first car was a 60 Dodge but it was a 4 door post. Think it was the same color. He said it was a salmon color. It was grey when I saw it. He’s still around.

The '60 DeSoto dashboard is the same as the Dart and the larger Polara
