The IF Can is BAKED! And the spider eggs are CAKED1 I think this is proof we don't need to see a radio fixed to know what needs to be done to fix it. Great video!
@poormanselectronicsbench2021 Жыл бұрын
Most of the "dead spider" stuff you see, is actually the skin, or exoskeleton, that they have shed in order to grow. ( BUT, there is the live one @ 38:10 ) The warmth and convective air moving through the units, when working, draws bugs, and of course, the bugs draw spiders. It's always entertaining to see you resurrect an item that had some sort of infestation, every one is its own unique challenge.

For silver mica measure the coil ( stripped ) with an LC meter & plug it into the formula with the res freq you want. Say 455 or 10.7. That will give you the cap value. LFOD !

Or disconnect the coil and measure the capacitance of the caps. If not totally leaky or shorted, they will read -20/+20 % of their initial value

What a shame. That was a beautiful set just abused and trashed. You never see sets like this of this era in the Cincinnati area. All have been thrown out. Not the Chinese style but the smaller TV radio combo. You can still find the monster combos because they were so hard to move. The easier it is to throw out the more likely there are none to survive.

That 2.2uF 3V ceramic cap was a first for me too. I'm a technician since 32 years and never one in my life
@auchterawer1150 Жыл бұрын
Same here. 0.47 uF or 1.0 uF is about the largest I've ever seen for a disc ceramic cap (also over decades as an electronics tech). I wouldn't have chosen a ceramic cap for a crossover, but my guess is that this was a cost-cutting alternative.

It is not often that a radio video leaves me with a grin but this one did. I would have just given this one a Simple Green bath, a brushing and then Rinse and Repeat! That is just what I used to do back in the late 60's when I first worked in a TV shop. The guy I worked for could have cared less about the dirt dust and hair balls. I could not stand it so I cleaned up all incoming TVs and radios before repairs. Ahhh the memories!

That 2.2uF disc is a first to me as well. Specially this old! And I'm sure you are right with the explanation about the distorted sound: rated at 3V only, it is definetely starting to arc on the peaks! But even if the bass speaker pulls down the output voltage a little bit, these must be 4Ohms then as the output power at about a watt and a half would go over that voltage limit if the speaker impedance is higher than that. Interesting design, and right on the limits...

I have always liked the black background with gold accent of this type of art. I have never seen it on a combo cabinet like that, perhaps because I never lived on the west coast, closest I ever came was either Fort Lewis Washington, or Topock Arizona. I recall buying a painting in a village in Vietnam that was black lacquer with Chinese art on it, perhaps it was Japanese because I believe it had a pagoda on it. Had it hanging in my hooch for the first half of my tour of duty in Vietnam back in 1970. I wish I could come on a working stereo with that sort of finish, I would love to have one setting in my living room.

I have a 1964 Zenith AM-FM radio that has one of those disk caps feeding it's tweet tweet. I saw just the audio tuner part just like this sold on fleabay for $150 about 2 years ago. Thanks for showing this and as far as trusting science, I've learned that math is the MOST important part in any science, including electronics. 8,000,000,000/ 4,000,000 = .1% all day long. The world loses one million people every day, and I heard that 10 years ago. The other mentioned DIS-ease had a slightly different equation, but even the best scientist could be off a percent or two.

The Speakers, are the same as The Magnovox Micromatic's with the Horn's! I bet, If you could find the actual Main connection, you would hear a sound better than what you are able to by using clip leads! I would think that there ma have been some horns with this console, which someone may have removed. or maybe, the horns were an Upgrade. but that is what, the Disk on the speaker is used for, and yes it is a Bi-pass. but, as a protection against damage towards , the other speakers(Horns). If I remember my Micromatic's chasis - The speakers did have the same parts on the speakers. Yes, that was done by the Manufacture ... Most Likely! this is why, using the phono plug Rca Ports!
