1960's Vintage Old School Timing Light Repair. The Way Electronics Used To Be

A fun look at the past. This timing light used a vibrator to create the high voltage. Thought the selenium rectifier or paper cap was bad. Turned out it was the switch on the voltage doubler rectifier. This push button switch was built with open construction so you could see the contact being made. Contact just needed to be bent. Interesting that the vibrator ran all the time and it was the AC being switched.

That was fun. The last vibrator PSU I saw was in an old VHF mobile transceiver stuffed with valves.

I have the first HP desk calculator that I should dig out. CRT display, delay line memory and speed so slow a solenoid locks up the keyboard while it is calculating.

I prefer the construction of this "1960's Vintage Old School Timing Light", over the electronic consumer crap sold today.
