1960 Singer Buttonholer Demonstration!

Last night, I discovered that my Singer 328K is capable of far more than I thought...it can do zigzagging, and all kinds of fancy stitches! Then, today, I stumbled across this buttonholer at a thrift store for $2. Just made my first buttonholes. Magic, thanks to you! Super easy to follow.

@@rndea100 It works very well. Sizing is easy using the dies provided. The biggest problem I have (and experience will fix this) is placing the buttonhole in the correct place!

Hi Morgan, I have a new-to-me 401A which is my favorite machine. I was in a thrift store and found a buttonholer like the one you have, for $5.00, which I immediately bought, since getting these old accessories is problematic at times. I had no idea how these things worked, but thanks for giving me the confidence to try my new tool a try!!!

The Singer # 401 uses the Singer "Professional" buttonholer. This has the widest variety of buttonholes and is suited for a zigzag sewing machine.

Hi Susan! I’m afraid without actually seeing your buttonhole attachment in operation I can’t offer much guidance. That said, you could try some basic troubleshooting like checking the stitch length along the side to ensure it’s not set on “N,” and checking that the attachment is securely fixed to the needle pin nob.
