here's an interesting anecdote. in 1972 i was 13 and was able to search through 5000+ cents accumulated household change from early 60's to present. i found 3 wheats. the vast majority were 64-D, 65 & 66. 8-10 rolls of bu 1968-D. and from 69-72 the totals declined. this was in Salt Lake City. by the way, slc is loaded with 1980's D varieties! they are in almost every roll i get.

I found a 69D no fg with no sign of being stamped perfectly flat but at the right angle with the right light I think I can make out part of a very faint G under 10x Magnification. It looks like it’s not there unless I really search and I really don’t know if I’m imagining it or not🤔.

@Brandi R some auctions will take A look at your pictures of what you have and decide whether they want to sponsor you sort of basically give you like a preloan for for the auction determined whether they would do so from very well taken pics. They may choose to sponsor you if you send them pics & maybe they will have you send out to them to look at? Take good pictures and send an email to auction houses. I would try asking around. They may send out & and get it graded ,& then get it ready for auction.... depending on their decision.

I have found several 1969-D No FG’s over the years. Not rare, but not commonly seen either. I see lots of weak FG’s but the true no FG’s are much tougher to locate. I also dig the “floating rooftop” on these, which is another feature that got polished away.

At 3:, the slabbed NO FG 1969-D...despite saying there has to be no trace of the FG, pause the screen and look closely - you see the (ghosted from die polishing) FG! This is a pet peave of mine with grading companies. The 1972-D half with no FG was made from a die where there was no FG engraved. The same with the 1982-P half. Yet you can find many slabbed coins (even by the market-valuyed-more PCGS company) where the FG is visible simply by tilting the coin to the light. The FG initials get polished off of dies as the dies age. In fact just about any date can be found "without" the FG from the dies being polished. Yet under the right lighting and tilting the coin, the FG is visible. The grading companies should know a legit no FG 1982-P half. Its simple to tell. The 1 in the date will have no serif at its base. Yet PCGS and others still will slab, as being no FG, coins with a serif on the 1. They mistake polishing of a die with a die that was not engraved with the initials. You don't necessarily get what you pay for with the companies people are led to believe are THE experts in coins.
@Car1Sagan5 жыл бұрын
Wow...and how much are these companies getting paid???
@DICACIO14 жыл бұрын
Plus PCGS wants a piece of your AUCTION earnings too! So they make you JOIN their Highway Robbery Club and sign away a fat percentage if your valued coin(s) can fetch BIG BUCKS once it's slabbed in plastic... Of course, that's USERY in the 3rd degree to the 10th Power! 🤦♂️👎 O' foolish little children, if you only knew how to sell your coins RAW online 🧐
@marianmoses96043 ай бұрын
The problem, I think, is not a lack of expertise on the part of the grader, but the production quotas they operate under. They typically spend less than a minute on each coin they grade during a working day. This allows each grader to theoretically grade 480 coins per work day. Given the huge numbers of submissions received by the grading companies they don’t have much patience with graders who are slow. I think this emphasis on grinding through the submissions as rapidly as possible accounts for these types of stupid mistakes.
