Looking at old pictures, I think 1960s skirts are normal in length, but they were very high-waisted so they stopped at the upper thigh. Fashion didn’t enter the belt skirt era yet.

My grandmother (who would’ve been 86 this year) carried a rain bonnet all through my childhood. There was always one in her purse except for winter. I haven’t seen one since she passed five years ago. Hit me right in the nostalgia!

In 2015, at the age of 35, I went into the Army. When I got my first duty station my mother and grandmother put together a "care package" for me and sent it to me. Inside was some of their home made chocolate candy, fluffy socks with sticky things on the bottom,.....and a rain bonnet in its original packaging from the 60's. Granny told me later that she found it in the back of her sewing table drawer and remembered how my grandpa complained about the rain in South Korea so she set it aside to send to me. I still have it...somewhere around here. Your short made me remember that and smile. Thank you.

It’s not that type of paper! The were made of a more durable cellulose material called Dura-Weave, but they weren’t supposed to last a lifetime either. You know those trendy pieces you wear a couple of times, and then that’s it? Yeah, that’s what the paper dresses were trying to accomplish. More of a novelty item than anything.

@@RASHIloafs I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. It was billed as fast fashion, and it was definitely aimed at teens, so I’d imagine a paper dress would have been quite affordable!

I actually discovered that fast fashion started in the 60s through so-called "paper clothes" not only made from paper but also just disposable 😢(I'm writing my university thesis about it). It's unbelievable and they weren't fully aware of the effects😮
@ryleegeiger5654
@ryleegeiger5654 Жыл бұрын
I can imagine that a one wear paper dress is less environmentally impactful than all of the polyester fast fashion that ger 2-3 wears before it falls apart or gets tossed. Although I do not know the whole process on how they were made.

I have a doll dress and matching hat that looks like it could be something out of the 1950's or 1960's though it is a newer dress that is factory made for American Girl sized dolls. It just has that style you find around that time. I do actually want to get a complete outfit that fits the doll that was made in the 1960's or 1950's for my collection though.
