I bought one around 1965. I found out by accident that if you put a small light bulb several inches away, the temp would increase sustain substantially. You had to be careful, though. My buddy burned his up.

By far the best sounding Maestro Fuzz Tone demo out there! All the others I've heard seemed way misbiased, with too much gain and super compressed, nothing like the OG Satisfaction tone. This sounds cleaner, more articulate and dynamic. I've built myself a couple of DIY clones and used this video as a reference to calibrate them. Cheers!

Just curious, was it like an affordable pedal back then?
@dennymcfastlane85302 жыл бұрын
@@winstonli8081 Yes, it was pretty inexpensive. I payed 10 bucks in 1965 for a slightly used one. The kid i bought it off, said his parents were going to destroy it~haha.

Usually, heat is a bad thing with Ge fuzzes,- makes them sound like bad distortion.With the Maestro, it seems to actually add more sustain and harmonic content.Some of the new, cheap copies are much more user friendly.This one sounds pretty nice.

The FZ-1A can still be owned for a semi-reasonable price...I was just looking at some on ebay...Found one for $400...Some new pedals will cost you that much. And $400 is a far cry from the 5 figure numbers I see on most original tone benders (Vox and Colorsound, Sola Sound versions...). Now the original 1962 FZ-1 is another story...I have yet to find that one on ebay, but i'm sure it commands a high price.

Why not build one? It has just 3 transistors and several passive components ;-) Only getting the Ge transistors may be more difficult (fuzz can be made with Si too, but it will be a bit different).
