This is a Review of a 1961 Ford falcon car. My mother and my grandmother put their money together and bought this 1961 Ford falcon back in 1961 when it was new, and we have had it in the family ever cents. This 1961 Ford falcon has a 170 cubic inch engine and a two speed automatic transmission, and it is a two door model. Maintenance on a 1961 Ford falcon classic car is quite easy, and it still runs well, and we can find parts for it when we need them, so it is easy to fix when something breaks. In this video I show you all of the features of the 1961 Ford Falcon automobile and tell you what it was like to own it for all these years.

There is not a single thing made in the last 30 years that makes people want to keep, remember and hold onto. These old cars are a part of America in better times, free, total and complete master of it's own destiny. The "Greatest Generation" made great stuff because they were great people!

My first car was a 63 Falcon, 4 door, 170 cu in inline 6, 3 speed on the column. I bought it for $350 in 1969 and sold it for $50 in 1973. I think I put about 40K miles on it. Without a doubt, this was the most bang for the buck of any car I've ever owned. It also helped that my Dad was a salesman for Parts Rebuilders, Inc. They sold rebuilt Ford parts to Ford dealers all over New England. So, when something on the engine broke, I just went down to his warehouse and got one. It was great!. I also found that all I had to do to get most repairs done was to walk through the kitchen on Saturday morning with some tools in my hands. After about 15 minutes, Dad came out to see what I was doing, told me I was doing it wrong and fixed it himself. I went back to the kitchen for another cup of coffee while he fixed my car. Super Dad, and I still miss him though he's been gone for 20 years.

Fun fact: Ford continued to make the Falcon until 2016 in Australia, when the Broadmeadows Assembly Plant in Campbellsfield, Melbourne, Victoria closed. The Falcon evolved during its extended time in Australia.

Great job of just keeping it original, if you ever do a restoration please don't upgrade just make her factory new. There's too many souped up already, and it's great to see an original well kept. Thank you for sharing.

I had the three in the tree wagon 1961 with the electric roll down rear window. It was that blue color that would oxidise. In my youth i got sick left a burn mark down the driver side. Frist engine i ever rebuilt. Keep the history your car. It is what we smile and cry about from a by gone day. Thank's Best Regards Jack.

How cool! I have a 1961 Comet sedan. Want to bring it back to life. All it really needs is the upper ball joints replaced and the rear wheel bearing replaced due to a grinding noise when last driven. Some major TLC and that's about it. The engine was re-ringed back in 2000 and last driven was in 2006.

That is so cool! I can't believe one family had a car for 60 years, and considering it's age the body looks very good. The instrumentation is not that basic, a temperature gauge was big (Nova didn't have it) and you have the half horn ring. Heater was an option too. And yes those cars were slow, even with the bigger 170 engine. You had to turn the wheel 100x to make 90 degree turn. LOL

One of these was almost my first car. In the early '70s, a friend of my Dad's drove a '61 automatic 4-door. My Dad's friend nicknamed it 'Blue Pollution' because the car was blue, and also the exhaust. He used to brag about how much oil it burned, and how he never needed oil changes - just carried a case of oil in the trunk and added fresh every week! Anyway, he decided upgrade to a '62 Comet that had more rust, but burned less oil. He offered the Falcon to my Dad as candidate for my first car, but Dad said "NO!". Your Falcon may have been the cheapest Ford, but not the cheapest Falcon - not with a 170 and automatic, plus all that exterior chrome trim. Your interior also looks more 'deluxe' than the basic Falcons I remember. To this day, I have a soft spot for those early Falcons. Nice survivor. 🙂

My mom bought one of these new in '61. 170 CID engine and 3 speed manual transmission. It didn't have the side trim like this car though. I learned to drive with it and my mom gave it to me in '81 when she bought a new Toyota Corolla. My 4 daughters learned to drive with the '61 Falcon. '97, I re-furbished the Falcon, and it has a 351w HO crate engine, AOD A/T, 4 wheels disc brakes, 9" Ford rear differential with 3:50 traction-Lok gears. It's still dark gray and has 15x7 "steelie" wheels and doggie-dish hub caps. Other than the drive train, the car still looks much like it did when my mom bought it new in '61.

In 1980 when I was 10 and my sister was 8, my mom bought my grandfather's near mint 69 Falcon with 11k miles. Unfortunately between my sister and I messing up the interior, a few fender benders and being road hard and put away wet for the next 5 years and 90k+ miles, it was, to put it mildly, no longer minty. It did still run ok and had no major issues. Mom sold it to a young guy who said he was going to fix it up. I don't know what became of it from there.
