I was born in 1962 so I remember these beauties when they were new. My family was poor so we certainly never owned one! The only other car evoking a similar response was 1st generation Buick Riviera. 61-63 Thunderbird wins the bronze. The Matchbox version of the 64 Lincoln was my favorite toy and initiated a love affair with Matchbox which lasts to this day. 😀

Fred I believe these are as beautiful a production car ever minted. These vehicles were truly "head turners." Expensive. When Luxury cars meant luxury. A Lincoln "Falconer" suggestion might get one fired. Too many pastel colors available, this Continental was the one you dreamed of owning.

Oh, not taking us for a ride. I had a 61 sedan in black. Yep I too am a Connie fan of this period. In NZ at the time (1985) no matter where you went there was always a gathering group of admirers. Many people would say, oh wow nice caddy. During the whole time I owned the Connie, only one elderly guy came up and said "that's a nice 61, but the 430 should have been a 4 barrel". Well I was quietly thrilled, someone, not only knew it to be a 61 Lincoln Continental, but what! He even knew the engine. Many, many happy and memorable times with my black lacquered Connie. Oh then the kids, oh yeah have to put a roof over their heads and school then Uni.. Over 40 years on, I still miss that black beauty. The kids and all the rest of life. . . I wouldn't change a thing! Just loved this video, thanks so much. Kind regards

Caspa, good day. TY so much for watching and taking the time to make a wonderful comment. That sounds like an amazing ride. Yes, it is cool when people appreciate these cars. I've still a victim of the "nice Caddy" comments from time to time here in FL with my convertible. Its great when you can live your life and make a comment such as "I wouldn't change a thing!" Thats how you know you have really lived!!!! God Bless and thanks again for the amazing comment.

Thinking back at this, I should’ve mentioned that… I looked back at some of my source material, and I see that other vent that you’re referring to that’s above the two main vents… just so everyone knows whoever reads this those two knobs underneath the two big vents or what folks rotate to direct airflow.

62's had a similar rear grille design as the front grille. I had a similar 62 but with the darker red interior but always loved the 61. Picked up the presidential black 61 and can't wait for my engine rebuild to be done...

I had a 61! It came from the factory with a bronze plack on the dashboard with your name on it! What most people didn't realize was that it had vacuum hose that controlled the windows and other accessories! A BIG SOURCE OF TROUBLE! Lots of trouble with leaks! Most of the parts were modified Ford parts with the same problems. Only 10 miles to the gallon of gas! Required a complete overhaul at 70 thousand miles. Wheel size contributed to "easy hydroplaning" on ice or water! However it was a wonderful driving car when everything was working! Wish I still had it!

The car is in stunning condition. My Grandfather had 2 61's. A small detail: Many do not know that on the A/C cars with the center drop down vents, that there is also a top centerline vent in that drop down. Most people just drop and expose the two bottom vents. But if you pull down against an indent stop from the "first dropped position," you will expose the tope center vent. You then have unrestricted air flow. The top vent has a horizontal grid that can be adjusted up/down, not side to side. It helps move A/C air to the rear seat.
@lincolnaddict2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much someone else mention that and I looked back at some of my source material and it makes sense now I wish I would’ve pulled that down further lol thank you so much for the support and taking time to place a detail comment… Much appreciated and that makes sense for the airflow to the back seats

My very early 62 has the square lock covers, but I'm not near the car to check the build date and can't remember off the top of my head. Also, I have a very late build 61 convertible with a rectangular outside rear-view mirror, manually adjustable. The base looks similar to the remote-adjustable 62 mirror. I like seeing the running changes made for each year.

I didn’t know I could have keyless locks. That would be a neat feature to add. How many quarts of oil do you use? Do you know if Lincoln Land can rebuild the original Carter Fuel Pumps? I have on and it needs repair. What type of fuel do you use? I hear highest octane with least amount of ethanol is best. Can you do a video on vacuum lines off the intake and carburetor. I could use a reference. What is the length of the oil dip stick? What is the length of the oils dipstick tube? Where can I find a vacuum line diagram for the 1963 Lincoln Continental?

Sign up for www.thelincolnforum.net/phpbb3/ and if you donate to Dan who runs it he will give you access to a bunch of docs he has. Oil dip stick lengthy I'll have to measure but you can't just use any dip stick. My '64 had the wrong one when I bought it lol. I prefer non ethanol as I've been told the ethanol fuel can wreak havoc on seals etc. Original Carter rebuild I would send to Boss Bolin. Email me and I'll send you his phone number.

I actually wonder what ever happened to the original '61 front end grille of the JFK SS100X. Never liked the 64/65 wheel covers on the 61-63 which are my favorite years, followed by '64 but given a choice 62-63 are my go-to years. The '61 is beautiful but as the 62-63 had certain improvements done to them, I prefer those. My '62 is a late production model 29E (29th May '62) which ironically is also JFK's birthday and has the standard round keyhole. The trim code 14 is supposed to be medium blue leather. There was no woodgrain panel on the instrument cluster of the dash in '63 (on cars optioned with the woodgrain trim), probably due to the difficulty in getting to it if it required polishing so it was painted brown instead. On the '61 without a/c, the center cluster below the radio was the radio speaker and on the 62-63 it was replaced by a center ashtray and the speaker moved to the top of the dash panel just above the radio and as a result, the front passenger side door had no ashtray. The horn ring was also different on early 61's but its design was prone to breakage and was changed later on in the production year, this car has the revised horn ring. The vanity mirror was only on the passenger side sun visor.
