1962 Buick Special Skylark Restoration Project

Kustom grille, Awesome and Unique Period correct Colors. This Buick turned out so Beautiful. Even when they took out what looked like a couple gallons of Bondo, I was Amazed. again another older car that has been reworked into a nice Driver. Thanks for sharing H.B.C, Enjoyed all Thirteen & half minutes of it.

Brings back memories, my first car was a 1961 Oldsmobile F-85 with the aluminum 215 V8. The engine had a scored sleeve and dad was only able to find a 1963 Buick Special 215 to put in it before he gave it to me. Tough little car, passed my driving test in it.

What was the difference in those two V-8s? I heard that Rover in UK used that Buick V8.

The Oldsmobile engine in my car had an "extra" fifth bolt on the driver side exhaust manifold. As I remember, the valve covers were spaced further apart and were angled like most GM engines of the time. The Buick covers were not angled but mounted straight up. The engine colors were different, Oldsmobile was a silver paint scheme and the Buick was reddish colored. I believe the Buick engine is used in the English Rovers, the engine was originally of Buick design as I recall. Aside from a few minor external differences they are for all intents and purposes the same engine.

what did you do to get your front suspension correct? having problems finding subframe mounts/bushings.

It's a Buick Special not a Skylark the V6 was not available in a Skylark only V8 though it appears to have Skylark tail light trim it has a Special not a Skylark roof. A Skylark would have had stainless trim around the side windows the car also has a Special not a Skylark steering wheel it's also missing the side vent ports on front fenders.

It had the fake portholes. They went away with the badges, door handles, gas door and side trim.

Really nice Buick, but NOT a "restoration", its a custom, a lot of nice work, but not a restoration.

It's a no from me. Wardrobe door knobs at the front, hand cart handles at the back, and baby crap green in between is not my taste. One of my least favorite builds on here.
