The late Glen " Fireball" dominated early "60's" Nascar with his 421 Catalina.

12.69 @ 109 mph in a full size, 4,000+ lb 1963 Catalina. That's fricking awesome!

The true SD package for 1963 consisted of 14 cars in Firemist (Firefrost??) Silver (a Cadillac color) , with blue Catalina cloth interiors. All were two door hardtop versions, with aluminum fenders, hood and bumpers. These were the Swiss Cheese frame cars. Thirteen of the originals survive. I had Royal Oaks car and Mickey Thompsons back up cars into the later 1980s. Drove the Mickey Thompson car on the street back in '82-3. Raced the Royal car at Norwalk in 1983. May have been the last time a real SD car was used in competition. The car featured in the above film is a two door sedan. There were more than a few aluminum fendered '63 cars provided for such things as Pike Peak. These had the SD engine, many had aluminum body components. If that makes them SDs, the car featured may be legitimate. Many, many clones exist to this day. PJH

I watched where they put a 421 with tri power rebuild to stock specs on the dyno it made 488 horse power so I would say that they were a little conservative on the factory ratings.

The stupid ass wind turbine in the background HAS to be as distracting as hell to a driver. They should have protested that thing be placed slightly somewhere else. I'm sure the adjacent land owner loves it being there and gets his lease payment every year.
