Just love the Dubs. That's the Dublin I remember. They were such decent, inoffensive people with big hearts. So sad it is gone. It's unrecognisable now. Thank you for posting. Just lovely.

I remember those days the late ‘50s. I lived not too far from Leeson Street. I was aware of Matt and his reputation for holiness. He lived close to what I recall as Gamby Lane, Gamby Lane was known as a courting lane. I often thought then of the contrast between Matt, his lifestyle and holiness, and Gamby, the courting lane.

2024. I would hope to go the holy Matt Talbot for my specific need, but also hope he might help someone I love afflicted with a different addiction. Mother Mary pray for us. 🙏

I have lived in London for 30 years. When I went to school for 3 years I passed the spot where Matt died twice each day, there was a cross carved where He fell. I ended up working with the Homeless afflicted to Drink and Drugs. I have not had a drink or smoked in years with the Help of this Holy Man, I Feel He should be Elevated to Sainthood. He should be the Saint for the Drink and Drug affected.

+Garrett Brown Nice post. I saw this once before, in 1992. The man talking at 39.20 is my grandad. He is holding his face because shortly before the programme was filmed he had suffered a mild stroke. My grandad died in Dec 1963, shortly after the programme was made. But the best thing for me, and my sister, is that we never met hom, nor did we ever hear his voice, we being born later in the 60s. So, for that alone, thanks for posting this Garret. You have made a lot of people happy.

Another memory is of the dance halls there. There was the Irish Club, mostly Irish dancing, and The Teachers a less cultured dance hall that attracted a different crowd.

My late cousin Michael McGregor who lived in the Liberties used to talk about Matt .... I'm sure he will soon be declared a saint not that there is any doubt that he already is .
