This was very useful to me, thank you. Very well explained. The spring install with the ratchet strap looks great. Ill be using the same method tomorrow.

Why hadn't this cool channel popped up in my feed until today?

Tell me about it. I am restoring a 63 C10 and this channel is gold mine. Just came across it yesterday after years of watching old c10 restoration videos. Odd. But, appreciated!

Yesterday I finished re-building my upper and lower control arms (bushings, ball joints, bump stops, all of it) and wanted to share some information that may help others. When ordering your ball joints, don't make the same mistake I did and just pop over to NAPA auto parts. They were clearly low quality and the mounting fasteners were not even all consistent sizes. Just a terrible product. I ended up ordering a set of upper and lower ball joints from Rock Auto and selected "MOOG" for both. When they arrived the upper ball joints fitment was SO MUCH BETTER. They bolt in clean and solid and the build quality is insanely better. The way they bolt in use metal flanges to protect the control arm itself so no fasteners are against the control arm itself (which for me was a huge bonus as I just had them powder coated). Also, the boots are specially designed with a "relief" notch you face toward the motor so when the boot is full, excess will release out the notch and AWAY from the wheel. You can easily service and wipe up the excess grease. The design difference you get for an extra few bucks is crazy. GO WITH QUALITY FROM THE START.

I used 1' lowering springs on my '63 with an '87 front suspension. I dont remember how I compressed it...but the 1' lowering spring made things much much easier.

By using the impact you over torqued the ubolts

I am beginning the same process with POL set up, you discovered no rear seal on the rotors. Can you share the model number and where you purchased yours ?

I notice you have spacers on your upper control arm mounting studs. When I took apart my 63 C10 I don't recall there being spacers, and I THOUGHT spacers only went on the 2WD 3/4 Ton model (according to LMC Trucks at least, for whatever its worth). Any insight into why you installed spacers? I just want to make sure I am not missing something on my build! Thank you!

I put back what I took out. The suspension on the truck was all screwed up (cut springs and such). When it is ready it will be trailered to an alignment shop to set it up right.

@@ThrottleStopRacing My apologies. I dug deeper into my tear-down photos and found there were indeed circular disc spacers between the alignment shims and the frame on the mounting studs. Sorry for any confusion! Great video!

Why wouldn’t the disc come with seals?! I didn’t think any volunteer fire company still uses sirens anymore.

Can you bolt 1/2 ton control arms on a 3/4 ton frame?
@chrisulloa7141 Жыл бұрын
yes frames are identical except for back shock mounts

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the 1/2 Ton ball joints fit 3/4 ton control arms? I would imagine not. Thought something else, I have a 3/4 ton gmc 63, is that the same a c20 for parts? Thank you sir for your time.
