Love it!! I bought a new 64 GTO from Frahm Pontiac in Downey, CA. in 1964. Cost me $3096.00. Only option I had was seat belts and they were $9.00. Had it for 13 years before selling it. I'm 73 years old now and have longed for one since the 1980's. Guess what, I found another GTO last year and bought it. I have it my garage and treat it like a baby.

That’s a great story John Crawford, hopefully you still have it given your post was 4 years ago. I’ve always regretted selling my 67’ GTO.

Jim I worked for Kimmel Pontiac in Erie Pa in 1964 and owned a 64 GTO just like this one, same color and options. Did a cross country trip in the spring of 64 with it, everyone wanted to look under the hood! Still remember the sound of the tri carbs at 5,000 rpm! Great car! Phil Bender Pahrump Nv.

Amazing..a YOUNG Man Taylor here...Great guy indeed! Known him for over 20 yrs now, since the Classical Pontiac site days, and now on FB and various Pontiac Groups.

This IS cool man! Jim, Definitely worth the time and effort. WOW. Having been to Carlsbad Raceway since 82' til closing in 2001, along with living in Escondido since 1978...sure does put things in a perspective that I could only Imagine. Jim my friend...you have done a great job of maintaining and keeping your baby running at all times. I remember hearing stories about you and your GTO being the absolute terror of ValleyParkway! I consider it an honor and a blessing to know you. good job!

I do not have any video of the GTO running at Carlsbad. All the of the GTO clips were at San Fernando in 1964. The blue and white car ('64 Tempest) was at Carlsbad sometime in the early 2000's. That's not the same car. The GTO still looks like the static shot at the end of the video. The Tempest will be doing shake down runs at Barona on Saturday - new engine. I'll post a video of it running at my house sometime this week.

There are two different cars in this “original owner” video. The beginning shows a hardtop and the end shows a post car. Was the “original “ wrecked?

No. My note 4 below indicated they are two different cars. I still have the one I bought brand new and is in most of the video.

I haven't looked at this in a long time. Since then the Tempest has run 9.76 at 138.10. The GTO got a really nice paint job about 4 years ago. You can see them on my Facebook page. facebook.com/jim.taylor.904750/

My dad bought his 64 brand new, and in 70 bought the 70 SS Monte Carlo. Hands down, the 70 SS Monte Shadow Gray is the better car with a 454 big block. 12 BOLT Posi.

@@timarnott4483 That's why I go by "The West Coast Jim Taylor", or Old Man Taylor. My Tempest used to have a 400 in it. It ran 10.71 at 124 on 91 Octane pump gas.

@@OMTaylor Jim, if u've done that NA....i applaud you sir!!!!....i hope you continue yer Poncho quest.......at moment, i got Kauffman D-ports with the 310cfm program (want the 340)...my wallet is being an asshole, any hoo, my 3450 lb Post Tempest doin 10:90's i'm proud of (pump gas of cors).....and theres more in it, w/o pandemic BS......if ur dude did 10:70's NA on pump gas, you must have a serious set of heads.....i know how to make Poncho HP, and the Kauffman guys are SUPER cool.....i wish you the BEST!!!.....may we lope along in Poncho glory!!!....peace!!

@@timarnott4483 The racecar has always been NA. With the 400 the race weight was the same as yours. It has early E-heads that flow 305cfm at the 0.600" lift of the cam. The 400 was bored 0.060" to yield a 411. The limitation is the 60' time. I've never gotten it to hook up as well as it should. At Pontiac Drag Days Jay Cason said "your car spins the tires at the launch - but it always spins them 3.5 times. Search KZbin on "Old Man Taylor Pontiac", and you should find some videos of the racecar.
