As a child I bought and built several of the Craftsman series kits. Our local 5 and 10 stores had them for 1.50. Those days are gone. Glad to see them coming back.

There was a TV commercial for this car..."One hundred thousand miles at a hundred miles an hour on the banks of the rugged Big D" (probably referring to the Daytona Raceway). The '64 Comet was the sister car to the '64 Falcon Sprint.

Just finished two kits from that series. Really detailed kits. Will be keeping my eye out for this one as well. Nice to do something simple after doing more advanced kits. Even though they're simple kits, it's still fun to do the details according to the make and year model.

I need quite a bit of help on the paint, any advice is really appreciated.
@lubsnewfie61222 жыл бұрын
@@zchris87v80 If you're wondering what types of paint to use, that's builder's discretion. Use what works best for you. Personally I use both Enamels and acrylics, depending on what I'm doing. If I'm building car models then I use spray enamels for the exterior and for the interiors, it depends on what effect I want. Now, as for what colors to paint your models, again, builder's discretion. If you're looking to do your kits with authentic colors, then jus do a little research on whatever you're doing. Like the car and truck models, you can watch channels on KZbin, like this one, to see what they're doing or you can look up the actual make and year model and see what colors were used for that model. As for what brand paints to use, again that's up to you. Some companies like Testors and Tamiya offer a wide variety paints in brush and sprays, enamels and acrylic. For spray enamels you can get get them at local hardware stores but just make sure they're suited for plastics. I find the Rust-oleum 2X paints work good as do Tremclad and Krylon paints. Also, if you use spray paints, make sure you use some kind of spray booth or use them in a place where you won't have to worry paint residue flying. Hope this helps but if you have any other questions, just drop a line or you can ask any of the other builders on here as well. Good way to share ideas on what works what doesn't or if there are any issues with certain kits. Happy building!

I know you work in your basement and was curious how you vent your spray booth? My hobby room is in the basement too and I am trying to figure out how to set mine up. Thanks
@hpiguy2 жыл бұрын
I use the booth to catch overspray only. I wear a respirator for fumes and then leave the basement for a couple hours after a spray session so it can dissipate. I don't have a vent to the outside.

I like the kit but if I decide to build it, I believe I’m gonna have to do it in red since caliente is Hispanic for hot. And I may be a bit prejudice since my father bought one in 1964 in the red, and by the way they gave him the promo model with it. It got lost in a move but I do wish I still had it. And guess what? The radio antenna was the first thing that got broke off. The promo model that is.

Have the actual car in the garage disassembled and repairing it, but I'm somehow worried to buy one of these original model kits for the fear of messing it up during assembly. If you have one assembled for sale (red interior and black or red exterior), I'd be interested in buying one.

When I was a kid, I almost bought a '67 Caliente 289 as my first car... My uncle was willing to sell it for 500$ but it had so much work to do on it that my parents and grandpa discouraged me from buying it. Sadly, this car was bought by a guy that wanted the engine for his 'stang and then he scrapped the car. Wish one model kit company would do a '67 Calliente...
