I remember the first video of this car in 2010. I think that was one of your first KZbin videos, too. I remember laughing about the idea of this huge tank with a diesel engine in it. It's actually really cool that the car not only still exists, but that you drive it regularly. It's not what one would normally think of as an "economy model," but who's to complain about 30 mpg? Great story, too. Thanks.

I learned to drive in my mom's 1965 Dynamic 88. It was stock, no diesel. I also learned to rebuild a 2-barrel Rochester carb and do brakes on that car. What a great ride it was. Super reliable, aside from wear items like the carb, brakes, and tune-up parts. I've owned a lot of Oldsmobiles in my life, I'd love to have another '68 Cutlass. That one had the "Jetaway" 2-speed automatic and a high-compression 350. It surprised a few people at stoplights. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.

Both of my brothers had 64 Oldsmobiles, one had a 88 and the other had a 98. Slim Jim tranny's. Like boats in smooth water. The diesel really makes it cool.

Back in the 80's I made good money turning diesels into gas. We kept the diesels transmission and torque converter because it was like taking a THM400 and putting a Shift Kit in it. The best one was a short wide C10 we put a Oldsmobile 455 in it. Miles loved it because it got 25 mpg hwy. and it was a Hot Rod.

That's awesome. I'm putting a 7.3 IDI in my 76 Continental. I was going to rebuild the 460 but I want something different and fuel mileage. It's going to be a daily and our car to travel in.

A million or two miles from now that will still be running with minimal maintenance. Compare that to these electric vehicles they are trying to shove down our throats that have batteries that cost 15, 25, and 30 thousand dollars to replace. It just doesn't make sense. Good video. Happy Motoring.

The original trans was a “Roto Hydramatic” nicknamed the “Slim Jim”. It was installed on small-body Olds and Pontiacs (including unfortunately the magnificent Grand Prix’s). I know the 98 had a real Hydramatic, not sure about US market Pontiacs. The one I had slithered through a mysterious “second gear” that I was told was something like the insides of a Chevy Turboglide. But it had a phenomenally low first, it was dependable and it acted like any other 3 speed except for that.

@@incompetentdiplomat3716 guess, if you don't have anything for the swap . I'd look for a chevy pick - van with the 6.2 and get the whole thing . Then you'll have all the bits to do the swap. There may still be engines for sale on government auction sights .
