Incrediblely beautiful Buick Skylark, Jay don’t ever apologize for rambling on, your excitement is contagious, your eye for great classics is becoming iconic. Like you stated who gets up one morning and says I want a 65 Skylark although this one is way,way above average, the restoration is phenomenal but I’m easy thanks for acquiring such a sweetheart.

Only the Gran Sport came with the 401 the correct V8 engine for a Skylark that is not a GS would be the 300 cubic inch engine or the 340. The nail head was only used on the GS option only. I would double check and make sure that that engine is numbers matching most likely it is not. Also it is very unusual for a Skylark to have hubcaps and not wheel covers or styled steel wheels. The Skylark was the top of the Buick A body line. The color is beautiful.

The 401 Nailhead was termed the 445 by the engineers because of the torque rating. If you look at the cross section drawings of the engine, the heads were an ingenious design. You've certainly noticed that the valve covers are level, not angled. Also that motor was featured in the Wildcat for a number of years.

Buicks really are the "Cadillac" of A-body GM lineup... They drive so much better than a Chevy... This one is very nice with manual trans and Nailhead engine... Allthough not as correct it would have been a real sleeper with a 400-430 or 455 dressed up in old school blue and old school aircleaner...
@thomasthurston66562 жыл бұрын
401 Nailhead was in the Skylark GS 65-66. The 400 was in the GS400 in 67 and it became its own model. The 401 and 400 are not the same motor.
@jaygrams50462 жыл бұрын
I read differently. My book shows 400 in 65 Skylark, 401 in other 65 Buicks. Internet says it had to be called a 400 because they has a 400 limit in a midsize. You are correct, the 400 that came out later is a different motor.
@thomasthurston66562 жыл бұрын
@@jaygrams5046 GS was a mid year 1965 option on the Skylark it was a 401 with 325 hp a Carter afb 4bbl carb. This info can be found in the Standard Catalog Of Buick 1903-2000. Pg 90
