Amazing how god that engine run, I saw it even before you showed the clock by watching the wake behind the boat. 😊👍👍👍🇸🇪

Yes, the wake does indicate that this is a.strong runner. It's one of the strongest 18s I have. The high compression cylinder head seems to crisp up the throttle response. My two '67 Fastwins are probably the only other 18s I have that are as strong as this one. Those are both stock 18s with no powerhead mods. This has been a fun motor to run this year. Thanks for watching!

It sure is amazing to see how square that 1965 is when my 1966 Evinrude Starflite 100 is like a never ending curve lol
@oldjohnnyrude8404Ай бұрын
@@DCFloridasport There sure was a vast styling difference between the 60s Johnsons and the 60s Evinrudes, at least with everything besides the 3hps. Thanks for watching!

@@oldjohnnyrude8404 for sure! I had that thing on a 15' riviera bowrider and it would do over 50😂😂😂

I have a 1959 18hp that showed 22 and 23 once in a while on a 14 foot fiberglass , HEAVY boat, with 2 in so I believe you GPS is not far off. I have no idea the bitch of the prop or anything but it was much faster than some old 18's I have. The leg may be a little shorter, who knows but a big difference in some of them. She sounds GREAT.

Those 18s are great motors. My favorites, and sometimes you find one that just has a little bit of something extra. I have a few of those now in my herd of 18s. For a light boat with one or two people and light gear or less, I like the 9.25x11P. Any more than that I usually drop to a 9x10P. It gives up a little top end in some cases but planes a lot easier and handles the extra load better all around. Thanks for watching!

That one sure boogies! Don’t know that I’ve seen an 18 with quite that much speed. Looks like a little “extra compression” makes a difference.
@oldjohnnyrude8404Ай бұрын
Yes, it's a good strong one. It will pretty much hang with the 20hps I have run against it. I know the extra compression makes for a very crisp throttle and warm starts just need a bump through compression. This has been a good one, just had a few fuel system gremlins to flush out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for keeping those old motors going! Sort of a random question for you- I have a '63 10 hp but it doesn't have the larger seahorse emblems. It just has Johnson with a small seahorse on each side, I'm guessing the newer and larger motors got the bigger logos?
@oldjohnnyrude8404Ай бұрын
@@danmanthe9335 The '63 Johnson logo has the word Johnson in red on each side with the Seahorse logo in the upper left. There was never a logo in the front on those nor was there on the motor in this video. The '65 Johnson logo looked OK when new but this hood was badly faded and damaged. The logos on this hood are some I made myself just to make the motor look more presentable. There were other years with larger logos, but this one isn't a real good example. LOL. Thanks for watching!

Ben are you using a fixed high speed jet in this motor? I wish I could get mine to run like that! Mine has a 72 jet in it and I would like to find an adjustable one that will work. It sure was a nice day for a test run! Thanks for posting.
@oldjohnnyrude8404Ай бұрын
Yes, this is a stock, fixed high speed jet carburetor on this motor. I have had surprisingly good results from the fixed jet carbs on the 22c.i.. OMCs. What year motor are you wanting to add an adjustable high speed needle to? It may or may not be a big deal to add. Thanks for watching, Dale!

@@oldjohnnyrude8404 I am not sure what year my 25hp powerhead is. I had it on a 1956 leg and was trying to make a sleeper kinda thing! It looks like a 15hp but it runs like 7 1/2hp haha! It is now setting on the bench waiting for somebody to get it running correctly. I have put an 18hp power head on the 15 leg now and that old girl is waiting for a lake test. I have a 53 15hp leg but I do"it think that 25 will work on that lower unit. It is all fun and games! It keeps me busy!

Was it difficult to rig the mechanical controls? Going to be attempt installing them on the same motor over the winter
@oldjohnnyrude8404Ай бұрын
If your boat is already set up for remote controls, it isn't really difficult at all. In the case of this boat, it was just an open hull utility skiff when I purchased it. I built pretty much everything in it besides the control box and control cables. I habe a video on this channel that goes over the build of the controls on this boat. It doesn't show the build process, but I go over what I did and show how it is built. You may want to check that one out. Thanks for watching!
