NOTE: THIS VERSION HAS CORRECTED A MISTAKE MADE IN MY PREVIOUS POSTING WHICH MANY PEOPLE PICKED UP - AND REQUESTED FOR A CHANGE.
MISTAKE: THE MONTH OF MR LEE KUAN YEW'S PASSING SHOULD HAVE BEEN MARCH, AND NOT APRIL.
I've also added changed a picture at the end as suggested by my new KZbin friend Tom Quek. Thanks for researching -- and providing -- the photo, Tom :)
I've also noticed some audio glitches - like detuned vocals in one side of the stereo mix -- in the previous version, which I've also rectified. I also re-recorded a few small parts. This version should sound slightly better :)
I had to upload a new video as KZbin didn't allow me to make changes to an existing clip. I did not wish to close down the other posting. Instead, I've created a link from the previous posting to this page. Apologies for any confusion thus caused.
Finally, apologies for making this change so late despite many requests to do so. Have been really bogged down by bread and butter work responsibilities. Unfortunately, I don't do this for a living. Thanks for your patience :)
Notes from previous posting:
I rushed this song and video out in time to upload before the SG50 NDP Day. Just wanted to do my part to remember this momentous occasion.
Heart is heavy that our Founding Father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew would not be around to share this milestone celebration. It's extremely disappointing as it will arguably be our nation's biggest day - since we gained independence on 9 August 1965.
Remember that Singapore was built through the guts and gumption of our pioneering generation. I think most people would agree that Mr Lee Kuan Yew had more to do with Singapore's success than any other person in our short but illustrious history. So let's not forget this great former leader of our country.
Finally, have a great SG50! Pray that we'll be equally stoked about SG100!
More good years, Singaporeans... more good years...
Btw, I don't own any of the videos or video compilations. Thanks to the respective creators for all the hard work they've put in that made this video edit possible.
Btw, just realised Mr LKY passed on in March, not April.

In Honour of Singapore’s Founding Father
(The SG50 Lee Kuan Yew Tribute Song)
We sat upon on your shoulders
Saw things we couldn’t have
Like clouds in the blue yonder
So far we couldn’t grasp
You spoke about a future
We didn’t dare to ask
But you crystallised the vision
Secured a fighting chance
You fought for independence
For freedom paid the price
We were kicked out and abandoned
You wept for broken ties
Though bruised you were not beaten
You kept our hopes alive
And a nation would be born in 1965
Chorus:
Oh Majulah Singapura
is what you would’ve wanted us to sing instead
But we can’t go on, taking for granted all we have
For we never took the chance
To say “Thank You”
Our nation’s dad
Through the echoes of “merdeka”
Divisions, endless strife
How you made us come together
Our fortunes intertwined
A people full of promise
And spirits full of fight
Like the stars we’d soon be rising
In the crescent moonlit sky
Made it through the stormy weather
We raged against the tide
From the swamplands to a city
Turned darkness into light
Now we’re standing as a people
Hand in hand, with heads held high
Like the promise that you made
In 1965
Chorus:
“Count on me Singapore”
Is really more than just a song - it was your call
“This is our country, this is our land”
And thanks to you we have a home to call our own
“Oh Singapura, Singapura”
Let’s sing together now as one big family
“We built a nation, strong and free”
And Singaporeans
We all are proud to be
Bridge:
Had you lived a different season
Had you picked another life
Would our story still be written
Would our future be as bright
As we look back on our journey
There’s a quiet sense of pride
We have come so far together
From 1965
Chorus:
Oh Majulah Singapura
is what you would’ve wanted us to sing instead
But we can’t go on, taking for granted all we have
This is what we could’ve said
“Thanks for being
Our nation’s dad”
Final verse:
When the news broke Monday morning
The city lights grew faint
The tears came without warning
An unfamiliar pain
Though we never really knew you
Our hearts could not contain
You were family regardless
Our race or creed or name
It was pouring down the day when
We said our last goodbye
Like the closing of a chapter
An era passes by
We will do well to remember
A giant of our times
And the year it all began
In 1965
