i have 3 1965 quarters, all have the copper clad composition with a ring around the edge but one of them also sounds different when hitting other change, i noticed that two of them the face is on the silver side, and one its on the copper side, does that mean anything, it sounds totally different then the other two when you drop it on the table or hit against other change, is it possible other clad compositions other then copper/nickle? and known copper/silver? i need to get them weighed, but ive had many a silver coin, and that sound it make is is unique, and it even looks like it has some silver tarnish on it, while the other two are mostly shiny, it shouldnt sound so different if its clad copper /nickle like the other two right?

I would say in the last 10 years, I have gotten back in my change 4 silver quarters. - The last one I received was about 4 months ago now.The best places to get silver coins are from fast food restaurants. Employees don't have time to go threw the roles while waiting on customers. - That is how I got my last 3 from.

I get quarters in the 1960's frequently in when shopping. Don't really want anymore. Just got too many but haven't checked them to see what I have. I stopped going to one store because all I would get are old coins the cashier would save for me.

That's about all I'm sure of as I am brand new to this hobby & in the process of learning. A couple look to have silver rims, and some are certainly on some meant for other coins bc the nickel cladding is present, yet the planchet metals are either corroded or patina but not Copper patina. I've looked around but haven't found anything on post silver 1960s coin stamped on any incorrect metal for the yr other than silver, but some must exsist. Thanks for the info

I have a 1965 qtr that has the two-tone edge, but has a ring to it like a silver quarter if I drop it on the table. It also is slightly thicker than other 1965 quarters I've come across, as well as has a stronger strike and a finish/patina more like a silver quarter. Were there possibly any experimental alloys that contained silver used at any point of production? Or could this possibly be from a "Special Mint Set" or something? Thanks for any thoughts!
@-oiiio-39932 жыл бұрын
Weigh the coin. If it is significantly over (or under) weight, find out what foreign coins were being produced at the U.S. Mint the same year or just prior that have the same weight. It could be a wrong planchet error. The U.S. Mint has produced coinage for several nations over the decades.

Silver Kennedy half dollars are way more rare than silver quarters because 1964 was the first year they made Kennedy half dollars and the only year they made them in 90% silver but they might be easier to find in circulation than the quarters because the Kennedy half dollar was only minted in 90% silver in the first year it was issued 1964 all the other ones are copper and nickel so people may not realize that their is a chance for a Kennedy half dollar to be silver

Unless an error coin or in unusually high grade, an 1886 New Orleans Dollar is among the most common.

Charles Lewis I just looked it up. It says in average condition it’s worth around $800-$1,200. If it’s in mint condition they can go as high as $20,000-25,000 I saw.

Well you won't have much to find, unless you have 1964 or earlier.

just check the sides of the 65 ones look for ones that are all silver color on side
@pisces1908m2 жыл бұрын
@@markgarin6355 like Cabinfever said below. If my 1965 ones have the silver on the edges. Then they will be worth just as much as the 64's. Reason is because as the cross over from 64 to 65 silvers were still being processed in the cross over. It was an error during that time. I am aware.
@markgarin63552 жыл бұрын
@@pisces1908m no...there may have been 1964 dated silver quarters made in 1965, but dated 1965 quarters, less proof coins are only Nickel / copper.

@@pisces1908m A 1965 'wrong planchet error' on 90% silver would be worth thousands of times more than a typical 1964 quarter.

I never find silver quarters, bummersville!!!!
@whytepapricka65864 жыл бұрын
Trace-Elementz13 You would probably have better luck finding silver dimes. Because of their small size, they tend to get overlooked more often than the silver quarters do. They were also made of silver, up to 1964. Just always check the dates to be sure. Another thing! The 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969 both quarters AND dimes contain 40% silver. But after that, they are mostly face value unless, of course they are perfect. Hey, if you should ever find any old NICKLES from, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945 with great big mint marks on the reverse, they contain 40% silver as well. Anyway, GOOD LUCK! And happy hunting. 😀 I hope I was some help for you. ✌
@RobertoLopez-zr7dk4 жыл бұрын
Nope. You're quite wrong Whyte Papricka. The current clad version of quarters and dimes (I. E. two layers of cupronickel on a core of pure copper) was introduced right in 1965. The 40% silver content applies only to the halves struck from 1965 through 1969.
@dguy03864 жыл бұрын
he's right about the silver dimes being more common tho. i found a 1955 D dime in change from a vending machine around a year ago. (the vending machine appeared to be from the mid '80s so perhaps it wasn't advanced enough to tell the difference in weight?)
