1966 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport 427 4-Speed Muscle Car Of The Week Video #67
The Chevrolet Impala Super Sports have always been big in size, long on style, and strong in performance. This week, we're featuring a special Super Sport... a beautiful Marina Blue 1966 Impala Super Sport featuring the new-for-'66 427 in the hottest-available L72 trim. This high-compression Turbo Jet big block was rated at 425 HP and is coupled to a close-ratio 4-speed stick transmission, and is willing to burn the tires for miles. Inside, the parchment white bucket seat interior features a full console with stacked gauges, bright chrome trim, and a high-revving tach in the dash. This car not only gets you there quickly, you arrive in comfort and style. It lives in the Brothers Collection.

My favorite year of the Impalas 1966 just so happens to be my birth year also. With the L72 427 cubic inch V=8 and the 4 speed manual oooohhh-eeee what a dream car that would be to own and drive!

Very nice. I have always liked the 1966 Chevys. My friend's dad worked at the Van Nuys, CA assembly plant when these were being built. Still looks great 50 years later.

I like this guy. The presentations are comfortable and well structured. I grew up in the 1960's. Dad owned Chevrolet's and I remember the 1965 Impala he purchased. It had the 327/250 and I took my driver's license test in that car. Later we had a 1969 Caprice with a 350 and then a 1972 Impala. Loved those GM cars. They were durable and fun. Later in the 70's things became worse for American auto manufacturers with restrictions and such.

I'm 39 fell in love with muscle cars when I was like 5. Dukes of Hazzard reruns. My 1st car was '71 Chrysler 300. Could you possibly do an episode about the fuselage Chryslers?

I saw 1 of those in a 4-door '66 Biscayne in '68 at a car lot. Surprised me so much I popped the hood. Yup, it was in there! My guess it had been a police car, likely rode hard, put away wet.

After totaling out a new ‘66 L-78 Chevelle SS six mos.after he bought it,my HS friend ordered a ‘66 Marina Blue L-72 Biscayne,M22,4.88 gears to replace it.A set of headers and slicks he was running 12.6s@110-112mph at the now defunct US30 Drag Strip.The numbers for this car must have been posted by Car&Driver.This unadorned SS reminds me very much of that car.

About those Gauges, the center gauge package came in 2 different versions - one with the clock, and the other with a vacuum gauge. The Tachometer and the Gauge Pack were 2 separate options, making 4 possible gauge combinations, with 3 possible locations for the clock. 1.) Standard Gauges: Gas, Speedo, Clock, all in Dash. 2.) Optional Tach: Gas, Speedo, Tach in Dash, with the clock moving on top of the dashboard. 3.) Optional Gauge Pack: Gas, Speedo, Clock in Dash; Amps, Temp, Oil Pressure, and Vacuum on Center Console. 4.) Tach + Gauges: Gas, Speedo, Tach in Dash; Amps, Temp, Clock, and Oil Pressure on Console. The car in the video has both Tach and Gauges, which means the Manifold Vacuum Gauge got deleted.

My Dad owned a 1966 Chevrolet impala SS 427 convertible ( I cant remember which 427 engine option & he has since passed away ) He was the 2nd owner of that car .. Loved it so much he would have owned it until the day he died but in 1979 a guy ( Not a man ) pestered him for 6 months about buying it for the engine & transmission ( 4-speed ) for his SS Camaro.. It was stolen from our driveway & found in a field burnt in Ringgold GA minus engine & transmission. That guy never stopped by our house again, not even to see if he sold or wrecked it or even if it had been STOLEN... What a piece of garbage this person is or was..

"Chevrolet has always been about high performance cars..." Not true. With the possible exception of the stove bolt 6, power glide transmission 1953-54 Corvette, Chevy only became "The Hot One" in 1955 with the introduction of the legendary small block V8.
@jeremythompson9122
@jeremythompson9122 4 жыл бұрын
And even in 1955 the 265 ci Chevy small block V8 really wasn't "The Hot One". By far the fastest car you could buy in 1955 was the Chrysler 300. They had a 331 ci Hemi with dual 4 barrel carbs factory rated by Chrysler at 300 horsepower. The top V8's available from GM and Ford in 1955 were making about 180 horses. Chrysler totally dominated NASCAR in 1955 and 56. It wasn't until 1957 that GM and Ford finally came out with anything that could compete with the Hemi Mopars...the fuel injected Chevy 283, the supercharged Ford 312 Y-Block, and the Pontiac and Oldsmobile V8's with the Tri Power option
@scootergeorge9576
@scootergeorge9576 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeremythompson9122 - Keep in mind that Bill France told the Chrysler 300 guys in 1957 not to bother coming down to Daytona. He would find some excuse to keep them out! The 392 Hemi would have dominated. The 331 and 354 were already up there.

Try running one of these on a hot day with pump gas. It will sound like a dozen guys hitting the motor with ball peen hammers. Closed chambers, iron heads shit for gas = preignition or "pinging". I know I had one and mine was the 390 horse.

Didn't all Super Sports have "spinner" full wheel covers as standard? Either the owner replaced the spinners with these dog dish hubcaps, or the car was special-ordered from the dealer or factory with these caps...

It's a shame gm discontinued this style of car with the 96 full sizes cars with the lt1 ford should of dropped the 5.4 or lightning motor in there full sized cars to fill the void the 4.6 was bulletproof but underpowered Chrysler is doing it now but there just not enough competition for it to progress beyond the hellcats and demons now
