We absolutely LOVE them here in Brazil! They're reliable and cheap to mainain. Plus, hella easy to tune-up. Search for Chevrolet Opala here on KZbin and you'll see a few of those making anything from 300whp to 2,500whp, insane engine. My Opala in the picture runs a 4 ciliner version of that engine. Just as reliable.

I drove a 1969 in 1970, 6 with the single barrel carb, which I tried to open up - lol Good one here: drove it all summer to move house furniture to new location, well never thought to check the oil and it ran out and the engine stops, two guys pull up and bail me out with some oil. It ran fine for years after that.

This one is special. I once owned a 68 gmc long bed. It had the 292 that you were working on. I had a 1 barrel monojet by non other than Rochester on a stock manafold. I knew nothing about the" OPENHOUSER". I did spin a bearing on #4 and rebuilt it with my dad. We went from 85 to 115 psi for cyl. Used the auto tran 3 foward. And it went 128 down hill on 40 in a 2 mile run back in the 70's. It made me so prowd of my dad. He just grined and scolded me at the same time. I miss him but.... this is fun, remembering what l once had. You know what l'm speaking of. You got to pass it on!! It's up to you Derek to "school" pepole. Just like your boy's. Installing a Boyd tank on my 66 was the best money I have spent. I have a 6.0 LS that was running off the original in bed tank and a fuel pump. The tank had venting issues, and gas smell issues (the original building had a rubber return hose (bad). The Boyd with in tank pump has solved all my problems and been great.

Bentley with the Leaf Blower build!! What an awesome gift. I would have to take it with me on every trip just to show this boy's talent. I am sure the others are just as talented, and I respect that it seems they don't want to be on camera much, you don't force it on them. Its still cool you involve them in certain builds, got them all rigs to learn the driving stuff, etc. Mom and Dad can be proud of those 3 boys. I love this truck, I think the battery on the firewall would have been my choice, but with no fenderwells, its gonna get sprayed no matter wheee you put it. My dad left me a 66 C10 Long Bed with the 292 six. It had a camper on the back that some drunk rear ended parked in front of our house. It still ran, just needed the camper removed and fixed. Dad passed away and another member of my family sold all the cars in the side yard to pull-a-part, running or not, most of which were mine, but thats another sad story. Definitely have an affinity for those trucks since then.

I knew the gas axe was eventually going to come into play. Derek, you have encouraged a lot of us armchair mechanics to get off our brains and start wrenching on our cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, motorcycles, and even planes in my case. Last week I changed out Ball Joints, Tie Rod ends, brakes, oil, and charged my AC on my 2007 Yukon XL. My alignment shop even said I did such a good job on my installs that they wondered if I needed a side job. I am too old for that, but glad I can still get things done for myself. If you are concerned about those bed braces losing strength, use the center pieces to brace the corner between the bedside and the bottom of the frame rail.

As always a really great video Derek. I learned stuff. You make jokes which makes your video fun to watch but you are one of the most skilled mechanics I have ever seen anywhere. Can not wait for the finish on this one. And that home built blower, looks like hes gonna be like dad and that's a good thing. You ever think of doing a video where you and the boys build some home made gokarts and then race them? That would be awesome.

Looks good. I have a 74 c10 stepside that I need to go pickup in Oklahoma that belonged to my grandfather. He use to let me steer the truck when I was a kid. When I was about 5 or 6 I took a pocket knife and carved my name above the custom 10 emblem and it’s still there today. I’m torn between paint or patina. I like the way your truck looks. I was able to acquire it through my uncle. It’s been sitting since the 90’s. Looking forward to picking it up in May and bring it home to restore. Bought new and been on the same family since.

Minus moms sweater😂 this is why you’re the best, Derek! I love that you’re finally getting everything you deserve and have worked so hard for. From tubing on chevelles in an igloo to a TV star with acres of land in Tennessee. It’s beautiful

Derek, have you seen ThunderHead289’s carb cheater? Might be cool for some of your older rigs that you want to increase your relia/drive ability. With out switching to efi. But it’s awesome to see your experience and gain from your knowledge.😊

What a great episode. Im glad he was working on it because when I saw that shock broken out the fitting all I could think about is what if it had gone completely while my love was driving it. Goes to show that even if your as skilled as Derek, when you drive your rigs, check them regularly folks. Things break and wear out.

I loved it. It looked like me under the back taking off the old rusted bolts. Even the wire said that was me working on the truck. Thank You so much for the laughs Derek. I really enjoyed it.

I love that truck and when you were explaining if your wife at the hotel had to clutch, gas it, hold the brake driving uphill - that brought back a lot of memories for me back in the mid-80s. I would go visit my brother in Pacifica CA. near San Francisco.. I drove my 74 VW bug around San Francisco - oh yeah, clutching that baby-holding the brake gassing it at the light behind another vehicle and yes, it was an experience.. good times..🤙

I learned my lesson with using butt connectors and nuts. ALL of my wiring connections, regardless of what it's for, gets soldered and heat shrunk or thoroughly taped.

Raising my children alone in Montana my boys each chose a project to restore, put in the work to earn for parts then learned to restore one car and soup up the others. Now I have a Lady friend with lazy POS kids and grand kids so it's refreshing to see your son in the shop with you. This younger generations favorite words are ones I hate: "I KNOW". Lord I wish I was that smart! Good Luck with the Ol' Chevy, I miss my fleetside 4X4, my eldest daughter stole it but keeps her running and in good shape. You are quite the mechanic Sir. In a world of "techs", it is so good to watch you. Take care of that Beautiful family, we appreciate them also. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

Great safety move moving that tank. Will also watch to see removal of the seat belts as they were not mandatory on US Trucks until 1978 provided SPID shows 'Padded Dash'.
