This came out right in the midst of Bat-mania. I was 10 and rushed out to buy a copy! The flip side was even weirder.

My wife and I had never heard the original of "Juanita Banana" until she ran across it on some 60s station. We knew most of the rest of these.

So back in the 90s I got to hear Green Beret on the radio. And then, sometime after, I managed to find the "Grandmother" song, but long since forgotten what it was called until now! THANK YOU!

I've been wondering since I got this on a CD in 1998 what that singing was at 0:21, 0:59 & 2:17. I always thought maybe it was Mrs. Miller. I'll have to look up Juanita Banana, never heard of it.

A little Dickie Goodman goes a long way; if you've heard one of his records, you've heard them all. They're at least useful for knowing what songs were current at a given time.

Wouldn't it also be his last until 1975's "Mr. Jaws"? Or did he have a few minor hits between this and that? This was certainly one of the last put out on the Red Bird label before Leiber and Stoller bailed out and left George Goldner holding the bag (whereby the L/S prefix on the matrix number was replaced by a "GG").

"On Campus" went to #45 in 1969. "Luna Trip" barely scratched the chart at #95 the same year. In the 1970s, "Watergrate" (sic) hit #42 in 1973, "Energy Crisis '74" reached #33 in, of course, 1974, followed by "Mr. President" at #73.

The DJ's throughout the 60's and 70's kept playing them, which is how they charted on Billboard's charts. Dr. Demento always gave Goodman airplay on his radio show. He thought they were demented. Comedy is subjective on records. Some people can barely tolerate Ray Stevens, but he charted on the Pop & C&W charts for 50 years .
