Hello all. Thanks for viewing. Just want to clarify the difference between the MK1 and MK3. The MK1 is a March 1 and a MK3 is a Mark 3. At times in the video I described them both as Mark 1 and 3. Hope you enjoy. Thanks. George

This was very enjoyable to watch. You have done a beautiful job. Perhaps it would be of interest to you: In the 1960s I was a Ducati dealer ( Fourth Dimension Motorcycles) in Somerville, N.J. During 1966 I ordered a Diana Mach 1 from Berliner Motors for floor stock. When ordering from Berliner, one didn"t always know what to expect.The bevel gears were improperly shimmed, and whined terribly. But in contrast to what you stated, this bike came with the cam driven tachometer. Also it came with a race megaphone. But not with the bump at the back of the seat. At high revs the exhaust valve would kiss the piston, so I relieved the piston, effectively lowering the compression ratio slightly. I raced this bike at Atco dragway in New Jersey in 1966 winning G stock class. Your workmanship is enchanting. My best wishes to you. Dr Richard Krammes

I owned a 1964 250 Ducati, a beautiful to behold, wonderful handling MC. When polished, the Chrome looked Marine grade, and the alloy glowed. She saved my life twice. Thank you and the owner, for the memory. PS she is a single, use Loctite.

Yes, in 1964 I think, we got the bus into town in Bristol England, to Kings of Oxford Bristol, and druelled over the 250cc Ducati Mk 2 or 3 can’t remember now. Fantastic memories.

Back around 1970 I'd visit this little hole in the wall shop that sold the 350 and 450 Mk3 singles. Beautiful red and chrome tank, the prettiest bikes. My friends talked me into buying a Honda instead, insisting the Honda would be more reliable. I'll never know how it would have held up, and I regret to this day having not bought the 450. Beautiful little machine.

Excellent little machines, except for the electrics!! Yours looks beautiful, please stay safe, and I'm looking foward to seeing the finished machine!

Your videos provide much inspiration. Thank you. I could use a little more free time for my MC projects. I have a '65 Ducati 250 Scrambler that a neighbor gave to me years ago. His son took it apart in '67, perhaps to change the paint. I got it in boxes. Luckily, the engine was never taken apart and the speedo says, 2,100 miles. I put it together enough to see if it would run, with special preparation before starting it. It fired right up. Then I continued to assemble it for a ride. What a great little bike.

Thanks for an interesting video Mike, The small capacity Ducati singles are often overlooked in favour of the L-twins, the single cylinder overhead cam motors were really well made and engineered with a perky performance that belied their small capacity. In the early 1980's a mate of mine had a 1967 Monza Junior 160, it's 156cc motor was good for around 71 mph and it went round bends like it was on rails, it also had the famous Ducati jelly mould fuel tank in red and white if my memory serves me correct. It was a lovely little machine to look at and to ride.

The best way to assemble the forks is to put the triple trees into the frame and then put the fork tube assemblies in. I suppose, given you're not going for total originality, the wrong handgrips & choke lever assembly don't matter, but the original Gran Tourismo grips are much more comfortable than what you've fitted. The shim type rockers were fitted on the Mach I & MkIII because the screw & locknut types could break at the 'captive ball' at high rpm. They will reliably spin to 10 grand with the shim type. If you've split the engine cases, you must replace all the bearings (don't cheap-out!), and shim the crank to less than 0.002" end float, and -0.002" run-out at both ends of the crank.

The blue frame looks great it reminds me of your Manxman. I don't know whether you get " Old Bike Mart" over there but Phil Hannam of the Norton owners club has written a double page article " The Norton Manxman story" ,very interesting. I guess you have a lot of the history but if your interested and don't have a copy I could send you one.
@TheMightyGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, thanks a lot. Yes, I thought it looks a lot like the Manxman too. I bought some paint for the Manxman that looks a lot like it but it's still not close enough. I have not seen the Old Bike Mart article. I don't think we can get them here in the States. I would be most grateful if you could perhaps send me a picture of the article if possible? That would be terrific. My email address is: mjtt110@icloud.com. If the pics don't work, I would be happy to pay you for the OBM and for shipping as it is quite expensive to ship to the US these days! Cheers, Mike
