Now in stock and available for immediate sale is this beautiful rare RHD Mercedes 230SL Pagoda previously sold by ourselves in 2019 and only used on rare occasions since. Photos and videos will be added to our website next week.
Fitted with the optional automatic transmission and power assisted steering, the car was manufactured in July 1966 and registered in October of the same year. Still retaining its original colour of DB462 Tunis Beige metallic, the engine has matching numbers to the original factory Datacard within the cars large history file. Supplied with the matching colour hardtop and a brown soft top the interior benefits from high quality perforated black leather seats and grey square weave carpets.
The current mileage on this low mileage car is 84,295 which we believe to be correct and commensurate with the 34 old MOT certificates and extensive service history going back to 1981 when the mileage was just 31,796 and still being enjoyed by its second owner. Copies of all owners registration documents are within the large file which shows how well the car has been cared for. A previous lady owner of the car spent considerable amounts on the car both mechanically and cosmetically as she regularly toured long distance and reliability was of utmost importance. Evident within the history file are over £11,000 of invoices on cosmetic improvements between 2010 and 2013 with renowned Classic Mercedes specialist Gratt Motors in the North West of England. Over £3,000 was also spent mechanically with Greenvale Mercedes Specialists to ensure reliability on these long trips. I actually met the lady in Germany in 2013 at the Pagoda’s 50th Birthday celebrations so it was obviously money well spent! Since she decided to sell the car in 2016, the next owner, an engineer, also wished to tour Europe in the car and continued to make improvements prior to the journey. Not exhausting the list completely, he fully overhauled the brakes and suspension, had the gearbox overhauled, replaced the fuel injectors, fitted electronic ignition and replaced the water pump and hoses. We fully serviced the car in 2019 prior to delivery and the present owner has kept the car looking good and mechanically sound. Since recently returning to us we have again fully serviced the car, re furbished the headlights with new reflectors and seals and carried out a few cosmetic improvements to make the car enjoyable for its next owner.
On the road the car is just fabulous, there is no soggy suspension and it feels quite firm for one of these models. The gearbox changes up and down very well with no noises and the kickdown works well. The brakes and steering are both dead straight ahead with no judder or vibration and even the indicators hold in position and self cancel!
The car is both solid and stunning. It is in a superb useable condition and is very well sorted representing a great opportunity for the next owner. It is good value for money for a correct right hand drive car with both tops that begs to be used and enjoyed as intended. Some say the 230SL is the poor relation to the 280SL and this is quite possibly true but does it really matter? Performance may be a little less sprightly perhaps, although this one goes very well indeed, but the early cars had so much more character with more chrome and less plastic than the later cars and a good one should not be dismissed.
