1966 Vans Movie

1966 was filmed in 8 month in 2009 for Vans.
The concept of the video was to go through skateboarding history with each member of the team.

In 1975, my first "real" job was for Vans. I was 16 . I ran the store by myself. And as a hiring bonus I got a free pair of Vans The store on El Camino was as I remember it was maybe 20 X60, with a tiny backroom. All the shoes were displayed on the shelves in the store. That's when they were produced in Anaheim, Ca. (I worked there too) Before the off the wall logo. Steve Van Doren and his wife would come by frequently. I remember taking special order for school with her own fabric. Orders for people with different sized feet, you name it Vans could do it. and since they were made in Anaheim... little turnaround. I loved my first job. Thanks for the memories.

I remember going down to the factory in Orange CA and watching them make my skate hi's. think the quality of the shoe has gone down since the 90s. wish they still made them in the states... but hey cash is king in this industry

Great movie! I really liked how you guys went through the eras. I just wished you kept the old grainy look you had for the intro of each era. It was suiting for the era and felt right I didn’t feel like I was in the 80s when you had a super high quality modern dslr. That was my only complaint. Great job

Iddra they sell from $50-$75 are you saying it will cost $500 for a pair of Vans? Seems ludicrous. Bans were never that expensive when they came out in the 70s even with the cost of inflation they wouldn't be that expensive. I'm sure the company would still make a profit if they were made here and would gain much more integrity and respect amongst Americans. Even internationally. Will they do it? Probably not.

I sure in the hell wouldn't and neither would you. So I guess since we're both Americans it's cool as long as someone in Asia, Africa or Latin America do it. We need to demand more from the companies that claim to represent this nation and state. What a disgrace that Vans chose to move their operations to another country just to make larger profits. I'm not saying I don't buy Vans, but I also don't pretend to ignore what they are doing and maybe if more people speak up they will do the right thing. Change has to start somewhere. Tony Alva and the rest of the skaters for CA set a new trend in skateboarding, but it had to start somewhere.
