Hi, I have been rebuilding a 1967 chevy window van for the last couple of years. I purchased it as a running van and drove it home (someone had already put in a new gas tank, fuel and brake lines, altenator, starter, rebuilt carb and radiator). It still has the original 'hippy' interior conversion. These things are very easy to work on, parts are readily available. They are much more rare than vw buses and many times more reliable. I have to chuckle, the 'hipsters' of today think the vw bus was the 'only' hippy van, in actuality, the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge vans were more commonly used by the Hippys of my era (1967-1970).Gary in Michigan (still truckin' and living aboard sv Paladin).

Hey. ya these vans are really cool i had a ford and chevy when i was 16 wish i would have kept them are you doing a complete restoration .I"m just trying to get it ready for a safety then i can insure it after that i may do a more detailed restoration. do you have any pictures
@highwatercircutrider7 жыл бұрын
Yes on my Iphone ( I coukd send you some or try to figure out how to post them). Not likely going to do a full restoration at this time, because the van is not far from being useable at this point. I made up and experimented with gas welding on some new rocker panels under the long portion. I wish I would have lead filled the seams (I bought the lead fill kit from eastwood and studied lead filling, but have not experimented with it yet). My uncle owned a body shop in Hamtramyck (Detroit) back in the 50s, 60s and was very good at lead filled body work. The things you wish you would have paid attention to as a kid! I have a very good original frame and floors, but need a complete exhaust system, minus the manifold. I am torn between keeping the crude original old interior conversion and doing a new interior ( I am skilled at cabinet work). I also can't decide between freshening up my original, tired six cylinder or converting to a small block.......Gary

Pictures would be great i always like to see what others are doing to their vehicles .it's a tough choice how far to go with a restoration the cost is a big concern for most ..
@highwatercircutrider7 жыл бұрын
Ya, the issues with cost are what can you get out of it, if you need to sell and how much do you love it! lol. Send me an email to: highwatercircutrider@gmail.com and I will exchange phone numbers to send pictures.....Gary

That steering wheel is from an 84. Our woodworking shop had a GMC 1969 Version of this van with a V/8 307 small block, and a three speed Manual transmission in the 70's. Fastest van I ever drove and the mid-engine design really stuck it to the road.

Thanks for comment ya i was told it could be from a truck

im going to try a bass pedal. i think i can fabricate it. do you have trouble overheating?
@MrKalicat7 жыл бұрын
no overheating yet i want to install a temp gauge instead of the light i have only driven it this summer and i avoid stop and go traffic until i get more confident in the van,i do need a new rad .

I looked for mine for three years. Then $100 in the paper with no head. After doing pretty much everything, been using it daily for our classic meat delivery van. Get lots of offers, sorry dudes, not for sale.

I have one in white but its a normal van with the 4 cylinder. $900 is what i paid for it. the heat works! people are constantly asking me to move stuff for them and it sucks
@hamyncheese2 жыл бұрын
wtf is "a normal van with the 4 cylinder." I know for sure it has nothing to do with the Second Gen Chevy in this video.
@rexjolles2 жыл бұрын
@@hamyncheese It appears I forgot the quotations, I meant "4 cylinder" referring to the tiny ass 6 cyl the offered, the slightly bigger 6cyl was more picked. And by normal I meant no windows, just plain van
