An idea to stop the “leakage” from happening: Put a coat of clear on the back first and cure it before you do the white layer that way if the clear seeps through it 1) won’t show and 2) will plug all the holes so when you put the white layer on it keeps it from seeping through. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope this idea helps if you try this again because I absolutely love this project ❤

I recently used shelf liner (semi-translucent white, no bumps or patterns, just flat silicone like material) and also "crazy carpets" (from Dollarama in Canada, may also be showing my age, lol). Beautiful idea! I might try a roll of clear resin tape. You could place some cut pieces on the back. That’s probably better than contact paper. The UV light should reach the back of the resin too since it’s clear tape.

Hey Julie....since the placemat is a flower motif, what about making some resin ladybugs, butterflies, caterpillars, etc. and the glue them down to cover up the white spots. Would look very cute. 😊 Or...knowing how much you love stickers, maybe get some bug/insect stickers to cover the white areas. Still pretty in any case. Thank you for being brave enough to show the "fails," as well.
@elainebruno41198 ай бұрын
Yes, we call it contact paper here in the U.S. I think the white leaked through because UV resin shrinks as it dries so where it adhered to the placemat, it left some really minor gaps but enough obviously for the white seep through. Thanks for experimenting!

Oh no the white 😢 but I would have done the exact same thing.. my idea to fix it would be to pull up those white areas let it pull up that silver and go back in with a chrome marker and re-outline the areas that pulled up. But we all learn as we go and it's great to see a fail from someone who almost always has perfect pours! Now I don't feel so alone!

Beautiful idea. I was thinking though, instead of the white backing, use clear and it wouldn't matter if it seaps through. Or ... Use the same colored UV resins on the back side to both strengthen and deepen the colors. Would have been a beautiful stained glass(resin) piece. I hope you can find another of those mats, would love seeing an attempt 2.❤❤❤ You absolutely inspire ideas! .... One of which.... I bought a food net, like you have one. Trying to cover tall and short pieces.... Thin or wide, is rather hard to cover with just left over plastic containers tops. Because then the resting sticks to the plastic cover giving the actual item patterns from the plastic. I NEVER thought I'd ever buy a food net. Not even for food lol don't know why just has always felt... Frivolous? But now I have a legit reason to have and use one! All because of you and your ideas. Also.... I have a 4d frog mold like one of yours.... I'm curious how doing a 3D bloom in it would look, so that's my next project.❤

Contact paper would work great and it comes in rolls. It’s used for shelving covering. That’s a great idea Marilyn. Love the plexiglass idea. I have the UV colored resin and I’m not impressed with the colors. They seem too light and not dense enough. I do have a 100 ml bottle of green which is a bit brighter that I’ve had for awhile that I like a lot. The green is more lime green. Just a thought.

Oh, man... I yelled "NO!" The second I saw the white. 🫣 I knew it would leak. 😢 If you really wanted that white you needed to do a clear flood coat first, to cover any holes, then the white flood coat. 😆 That said, there are ways to save it (silver leaf over it or just glueing other pieces on top of the white patches) or you could cut it up and add the nicer bits to another project. 🤷🏻♀️ Live and learn. At least this lesson could save someone else from making the same mistake. 😅👍 EDIT: Yes, I remember the first video, BTW. 😁

One suggestion for you our dear Julie. I'd invest in a bone folder if you don't have one. Because everything you don't want to leak and/or things you don't want bubbles around like stickers and etc. It comes in very handy. You can use it to press hard or light depending on what you need. They come in different sizes and shapes. I've been meaning to recommend this for awhile. Lol. But then again I've found waiting for my round tuit is just not a good idea. 😂

We call it contact paper here where I live in Michigan too. Julie, just a couple of ideas or suggestions in case you try this again. You could use plexiglass that's quite thin , so it's clear . That's the first idea. The second one is here in the U.S. in any hardware store you can buy small rolls of heavy duty plastic that's clear also that would work so it would cure easier with the UV resin. You can find it in the painters supplies. And if you want to make sure it's a little tacky so the UV resin doesn't bleed, use tacky spray so it stays in place until you get it all cured. Hope those ideas help. ❤😊

Julie the only way I worked this idea out is to make its own silicone mould tray each design. I made a 1.2m diameter mandala making a round mould, I put a thin layer of silicone in it waited for it to setup 95% and layed my mandala on top and put the tiniest bit of pressure for the silicone to bulge thru the mandala holes minutely just enough to seal the edges. Hense I learnt if it's too early it sinks n you have to start again too late n it's too hard n will repel the mould. n waste the silicone. I then put my coloured resin where I wanted, it took days and days to complete. I then removed everything from the silicone and the next day did a flood coat on the back. It took me a yr of different tapes contact type things that wretched silver aluminium tape🤬💩 until I forked out a fortune to do it this way. Was it worth it no would I do it again ..only if I cld charge in the 1000',s it's not worth the mental anguish honestly. As a sun catcher it won't last very long only a matter of a month if that as the sun fades it extremely fast not a good idea sorry. Hope this info helps n Goodluck if you persue it. Xx
