Hello Onur Yes for sure we will be doing some detailed door video as they are quite complicated. Door video work will be down the road a bit as I work my way through the interior and then on to panel fitments. Next year though we hopefully will complete the project and have everything covered!

@@MikesRestorations Mike - Autos International, great recommendation. Did you do a video on covering the door panels? If so did you put any thin padding or foam underneath the leather or Vinyl or did you just stretch it over the panel. Any material between the original leather and door panel has long since denigrated so it is unclear to me if anything was there. thanks - Roger

Hello Roger I have not taken apart the original door panels. New replacement door panels were made for this project by Autos International. Please give Dorian a call as he would be the best man to answer your question. If you have not seen the San Diego concours video please check it out. We Talk with Dorian at their shop and show those door panels! Good Luck and please send my regards to Dorian

Hi, Mike … Great series ... Egads, I can’t believe it’s taken me a year to get all the prep work done to begin the painting! Question - how much paint (gallons/quarts) does it take to put a single coat on a Porsche 911T? I’ve done all the undercoating and interior sealing but except for the epoxy sealer I haven’t done any ‘exterior’ painting. I can then extrapolate a total requirement from that value. I took a screen shot of the sheet you made in Video 16 that shows all the coats you’ve put on your 911 but I didn’t hear in the video total volumes of the different paints used. Can you elucidate? Jerry
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Jerry As my memory serves me but it has been awhile since paint. I was using one gallon of epoxy sealer to coat everything on the car. Inside Trunk & engine bay. Doors both sides, Hood both sides, engine lid both sides, bumpers inside & out k-36 primer about three quarts per coat on areas that need finished paint per sanding grit. 2- additional quarts of epoxy primer prior to base coat color for seal. 1 gallon base color makes two gallons sprayable for three base coats of color. Approximately 1-1/2 gallons of clear coat top coating. That should get you in the ballpark Good luck!

Mike, Can the front and rear glass be installed after the interior install is complete? Beautiful job, by the way.
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Joseph Seasons Greetings! Yes the front and rear windows can be installed with upholstery in place but would be easier and probably safer to install with dash out and rear deck removed. Pulling the string along the bottom of the gaskets will be much tighter with those in place. We will be doing video soon on front and rear windows before moving forward with more upholstery work

Joseph Im reading from the manual regarding dashboard installation of early cars. The the windshield can remain prior to year 68. From 68 onwards the windshield must be removed from the car as some changes in design to dashboard had taken place. The manual also recommends upon removal of old seal it would be necessary to be cut.. so a new replacement seal is necessary. I hope this helps! Good Luck

Hi Mike - quick question for you... I have recently purchased a restored 1968 912, and would like to do a bit of the maintenance myself. I would love to hear your opinion on if there is preferred brand / set of mechanics tools to use on these early short-wheel based Porsches. And if it is not a matter of brand of tool, are there any other considerations I should take account of when starting to put together an appropriate set of tools for working on the car. I am starting from almost zero - sold all my tools when I moved overseas a few years ago, so I've got a clean slate to work with. Thank you so much for these videos - they are invaluable. Your dedication to documenting is so appreciated.

Hello Jim I think you will do fine with any basic metric tool set. I have not run across any special tooling needed up to this point outside of engine work. Some special tooling will be needed there. A complete 1/4 , 3/8 , 1/2 drive set will do the job. Brakes will need metric torx driver set. Also a metric allen driver set will be needed throughout the car. Im using a mix of older tools with newer tools and various brands. Craftsman. Husky, Kobalt ( I think kobalt wrenches are the best! and very affordable.) Snap-On tools are nice but over priced and over rated. ( these are very high quality for 1/4 drive and nice fit. excellent for this car.) Klein tools is also great particularly the screwdrivers. I would not recommend any harbor freight tools as they are too soft and could damage your hardware upon removal or re-installation. Good luck on your 68 restoration!
